Surgical Faculty Physician – Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery

Job Summary

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School is presently recruiting for two surgical faculty physician to join the Orthopaedic Trauma team. Clinically, this team works closely with other services internal, and external to, the department to provide the highest level of trauma care consistent with our status as a level 1 trauma center. Opportunities to develop an elective subspecialty practice related to orthopaedic trauma abound. Besides patient care, specific duties also include teaching and conducting/participating in research. The ideal candidate will be Fellowship trained with an interest in student, resident and fellow education, as well as collaborative clinical research, scholarly activity and professional development.

Required Qualifications*

Candidates should possess an M.D./D.O. and be board certified or eligible for certification; completed specialty fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma surgery; hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses in the State of Michigan; demonstrate outstanding teaching and clinical care abilities; and have associated research interests.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Michigan Health has been a pioneer in orthopedic surgery care, research, and education since 1930. The diverse clinical faculty have specialized training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, pediatric orthopedics, joint reconstructive surgery, orthopedic trauma and fractures, hand and upper extremity surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spine surgery, and orthopedic oncology.  Our surgeons perform close to 7,000 procedures per year, and all providers, including advanced practice and non-operative physicians, see approximately 100,000 outpatient visits annually. After recent recruitment efforts, we have 38 clinical faculty at present. As international leaders in musculoskeletal research 11 basic science faculty focused on bone, joint, tendon, and ligament formation, function, injury and disease, working closely with clinicians to discover new treatments that accelerate musculoskeletal tissue healing and remodeling, improve the utilization and effectiveness of healthcare delivery through programs such as the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI) and develop new strategies to prevent injuries and diseases.
