Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate surgical scheduling, including reviewing case requests, contacting patients, and scheduling surgeries, pre-op, and post-op appointments.
  • Manage phone calls from internal and external customers related to surgery.
  • Work with physicians to ensure adherence to surgery scheduling procedures.
  • Coordinate with other department schedulers to optimize use of service block time at operating rooms across the health system.
  • Enter CPT codes into scheduling systems to permit business teams to identify patient financial liability.
  • Represent the surgery scheduler team on various committees and workgroups as needed.
  • Maintain responsibility for MiChart grids and scheduling buckets.
  • Obtain proper insurance information and documentation to ensure correct charges.
  • Develop standards of work with lead and scheduling colleagues.
  • Manage daily work queues and coordinate pre-op medical clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3-4 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling.
  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing.
  • Financial counseling experience for healthcare patients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Effective communication and active listening skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Modes of Work:

Positions eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change throughout employment.
