Responsibilities*

Basic OR scheduling-Reviewing the case request, contacting the patient and scheduling the surgery, the pre-op and post-op appointments. Work with physicians on adherence to surgery scheduling procedures.  Manage phone calls from internal and external customers related to surgery. Coordinate with other department schedulers to optimize use of service block time at operating rooms across the health system. Enter CPT codes into scheduling system to permit business team?s identification of patient financial liability.  Serve as a representative of the surgery scheduler team/role on various committees, workgroups as needed.  Maintain responsibility for MiChart grids and scheduling buckets. Obtain proper insurance address and documentation to insure correct charges. Develop, along with lead and scheduling colleagues, a standard of work. Manage daily work queues. Coordination of pre-op medical clearances.

Required Qualifications*

High School Diploma or GED. 3 ? 4 years of experience. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Prior experience performing complex scheduling. Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing. Financial counseling experience for healthcare patients. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting. Communicates effectively. Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.  Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
