Job Summary:

This position leads the strategic development and execution of innovation platforms and projects to create value for consumers across La-Z-Boy, Joybird and total enterprise. The role partners closely with Consumer Insights, R&D, Finance, Supply Chain, Sales/Retail, Merchandising, Marketing, and others – to lead product development initiatives from concept to commercialization. Manages efforts in driving technological and functional advancements within our product lines. Leveraging consumer insights and market trends, this position will guide a talented team in conceptualizing, developing, and bringing to market groundbreaking furniture solutions that exceed consumer expectations.

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):

  • Support Innovation leadership in driving the organization’s innovation vision and strategies​, team and process development and organizational alignment
  • Develop and implement a robust innovation strategy aligned with business objectives, focusing on integrating technological advancements and functional improvements into our product offerings.
  • Explore and leverage emerging technologies (e.g., IoT, sustainable materials, smart functionalities) to enhance product features and create differentiated offerings.
  • Cross-functional leader for product development of the innovation platforms and projects from idea generation to commercialization​ – responsible for consumer insight understanding, concept development and validation, financial business case development, product positioning/link to brand strategy, and collaboration with merchandising and marketing on launch and lifecycle management
  • Partners with consumer insight to define innovation and product development learning plans
  • Utilize market research, customer feedback, consumer insights and trend analysis to identify emerging consumer needs and preferences.
  • Collaborate with all cross-functional teams involved in Product Roadmap o coordinate innovation launch plans for cohesive launch planning
  • Partner with marketing organization on communication and go-to-market planning for innovation launches
  • Partner with merchandising on pricing recommendations and role within current assortment​
  • Lead the management and future development of the LZB Branded licensing business in alignment with Innovation and product strategies.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and technological advancements to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
SCOPE & IMPACT: 

Scope includes La-Z-Boy Inc consumer brands La-Z-Boy and Joybird, including initiatives that benefit the International business. Cross-functional leadership and collaboration across Consumer Insights, R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing, Merchandising and Finance required. Innovation will impact our brand health and reputation, drive traffic to stores and ultimately accelerate growth for the portfolio. 75%+ focus on LZB Brand and up to 25% on Joybird/enterprise initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Marketing, Merchandising or related field with 6-8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience in consumer centric product marketing or product development from idea creation to product lifecycle management   
  • 3-5 years of Supervisory/Leadership experience or equivalent
  • Strategic thinking mentality with a creative mindset and a passion for pushing boundaries in product design and technology
  • The ability to understand broader implications & explore all paths towards an objective
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams; skilled at driving change and finding common solutions across organizations
  • Knowledge of product development principles and project management methodologies
  • Computer proficiency and experience with Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Project. 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously for different audiences and retail channels. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with skill in collaboration and teamwork.
  • Proactive, self-starter with previous work experience in fast paced environment with proven ability to execute on-deadline, and on-quality.
  • Travel required up to 25% - this role will be based in Monroe, MI with frequent travel (monthly average) to the Innovation Center in Dayton, TN
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 
  • MBA or Masters in related field
  • Experience or extensive knowledge of the Furniture industry
