San Francisco, United States HSBC Full time

Job description

Our purpose – Opening up a world of opportunity – explains why we exist. Here at HSBC we use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to open up new kinds of opportunity for our more than 40 million customers. We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

As our Business Development Relationship Manager, you will be meeting the creators of tomorrow’s most exciting companies before the rest of the world knows who they are. The investor coverage and business development team is responsible for developing long term relationships with key VCs, channels and industry partners in order to drive our acquisition engine. Our end clients range from early-stage to public innovation economy companies. Key to this role will be partnering with the entities who fund, advise, or serve founders early on, like accelerators, law firms, seed VC firms and more.

This role is ideal for a leader with deep expertise on partnerships, sales, and business development, especially targeted towards early stage, innovation economy startups. Like the entrepreneurs we serve, you will also put on your entrepreneurial hat and continue to shape banking and financing offerings for founders who are just getting started.

Reporting to leadership on our business development team, the successful candidate will build effective internal networks with multiple teams across the bank, partnering with everyone from relationship managers to product specialists, marketing and more.

As our Business Development, Relationship Manager - Early Stage Channels - Innovation Banking you will:

  • Manage 3-5 critical key partnerships and channels that have already been established, while sourcing new ones too. This includes presenting our offering to their founders, attending or speaking at conferences, and working internally to further shape our offering for this segment
  • Develop relationships with venture capitalists, advisors and finance partners who work with companies at the Pre-Series A stage
  • Originate new clients for the bank, expanding our market share with the best early stage companies in the ecosystem
  • Develop the HSBC Innovation Banking brand by representing the bank in the market at industry events and conferences and creating high quality media, speaking and thought leadership opportunities
  • Enhance and contributing to our business and operational plans for this segment. The ability to tell a compelling story, with data to back it up, will be essential
  • Build effective internal networks within the HSBC Innovation Banking platform to enable full success in the role

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $175,000.00 and $250,000.00

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

At HSBC, our overall goal is to provide a competitive Total Reward Package, with an appropriate mix of fixed pay, and variable pay, as part of an employee’s overall total compensation and benefits. Variable pay generally takes the form of discretionary, annual awards (sometimes referred to as a “bonus”). Additionally, HSBC offers a wide range of competitive and flexible benefits designed to help you improve your health and well-being, finances, and lifestyle. Requirements

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

    • Leadership experience in business development, sales, partnerships or marketing experience
    • Preference for candidates with experience working in the venture capital and start-up ecosystem
    • Interest and experience in speaking publicly at webinars, conferences and more to guide communities of founders on their journey
    • Passionate about social media and utilizing this medium to learn more about early stage founder communities, trends, and how we can source clients here
    • Strong ability to manage a pipeline, CRM, and report on progress
    • We are a team that supports each other, and so the individual should have an entrepreneurial, collaborative approach and a flexible style that allows for the input of others. They must share the core values of HSBC Innovation Banking and be focused on achieving the best outcome for the organization versus individual achievement. They must have a proven track record of delivering results for the team

In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in the U.S. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow. We offer a competitive pay and benefits package including a robust Wellness Hub, all in a welcoming, diverse and inclusive work environment. You will be empowered to drive HSBC’s engagement with the communities we serve through an industry-leading volunteerism policy, a generous matching gift program, and a comprehensive program of immersive Sustainability and Climate Change Initiatives. You’ll want to join our Employee Resource Groups as they play a central part in life at HSBC, including the development of our employees and networking inside and outside of HSBC. We value difference. We succeed together. We take responsibility. We get it done. And we want you to help us build the bank of the future

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, race, national origin, ethnicity, disability or medical condition, genetic information, military or veteran service, religion, creed, sex, gender, pregnancy, childbirth, caregiver status, marital status, citizenship or immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other trait protected by applicable law.
