Materials Technician III

Howmet Fastening Systems is looking for a Materials Technician III (1st or 2nd Shift) in our Blind Products Department.  This position performs more complex materials tasks involving the coordination of material flows throughout manufacturing processes; has thorough knowledge of business enterprise systems in area of specialization; identifies problems, determines root causes, and takes required corrective action to achieve a high level of inventory accuracy; operates a variety of powered material handling equipment and performs manual tasks and may provide direction to lower-level Technicians.

Responsibilities:
  • Reviews work order requirements to match quantities and heat lots for optimized component testing and assembly.
  • Prioritizes work order assembly machine queues through Inspection, versus customer demand including direction from the Scheduler.  Prints work orders when needed and delivers to Production Technicians.
  • Communicates with other Material Handlers to transport work-in-process parts meeting specifications from one manufacturing process to another.  Ensures that systems entries tracking movements are entered in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Conducts cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy.  When required uses hand-counts and weight-counts parts to verify inventory quantities in process and makes required adjustments to systems records. Determines and corrects causes of inventory inaccuracy.
  • Dispositions rejected materials properly and prevents them from re-entering manufacturing flows.
  • Reviews remaining components after completion of assembly operations and determines if they are to be returned to stock, routed to other assembly operations, or disposed of.
  • Organizes the component stores area to ensure that inventory is stored for rapid movement, ease of identification, and protection from damage.
  • Establishes priorities for component processing of rework orders such as heat treating, plating, lubing, testing and inspection.
  • Prints product labels where required.  Coordinates transporting finished goods to Packaging and completes move-to-stock transactions in the system.
  • Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and operated, to include checking oil, water, fuel, and other fluids before and during use.
    Skills:
    • Read, write and perform standard math calculations.
    • Operate a forklift or walk-behind lift and perform manual activities with moderate physical demands.
    • Willing to learn new computer based systems to perform transactions.
    • Must be able to interact positively with other individuals to function effectively in a team-based environment.
    • Be a highly organized individual, able to operate effectively in a demanding environment.

      Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to operate a computer and be familiar with using Excel.
