The Clerk III / Cashier performs advanced (senior level) clerical work in the cashier office. Work involves coordinating clerical activities, compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, maintaining files, and ordering supplies. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completion of work requires the performance of moderately complex duties, while decision making is based on well-defined guidelines. Must understand that duties, location of work, and shift patterns are subject to change as determined by the administration to meet the needs of the hospital.

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure efficient operation of the patient care unit. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Essential Job Functions:
• Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
• Coordinates the receiving, storing, and issuing of files, materials, and supplies.
• Answers inquiries regarding policies and procedures, assists the public and staff in filling out forms, and provides information to the public by mail or by phone.
• Reviews, edits, and reconciles discrepancies in reports, purchase orders, correspondence, summaries, manuals, vouchers, journals, ledgers, requisitions, records, and other related forms.
• Reviews and edits information on agency records and recommends modification of forms or records.
• Reviews data, verifies calculations, and edits charts, graphs, and tables.
• Reviews data entry, data retrieval, and data searches.
• Backs up the opening and distribution of incoming mail.
• Receives documents, supplies, mail, equipment, or materials, and checks for quantity and quality of receivables.
• Maintains office schedules and appointments.
• Receives and counts cash, coordinates deposits to the bank, and maintains accountability for and forwards payments to the appropriate agency staff.
• Performs backup receptionist or telephone switchboard duties.
• Trains backup cashier.
• Performs related work as assigned from the Budget Manager. Knowledge Skills Abilities:
• Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures; of warehousing procedures; of state purchasing policies and procedures; and of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures.
• Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; to make arithmetic computations; to communicate effectively; and to train others.
