Job Summary

Provides day-to-day operational oversight, management, team leadership and is accountable for the medical-administrative and medical-legal aspects of the Medical Staff Office (MSO). Serves as a liaison with various hospital departments, medical staff members, and hospital administration in addressing matters that relate to Medical Staff Services. Works collaboratively with the Assistant Administrator, Chief of the Medical Staff and other medical staff leaders to plan, organize, and maintain the responsibilities and functions of the MSO in efforts to meet organizational goals while also adhering to Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory standards.  Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.

 

Minimum Position Requirements:

Work Experience: 

Five years of professional Medical Staff Services experience required.  Five years of management experience required. 

 

License/Registration/Certification:

Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred.

 

Education and Training: 

Bachelor’s degree in related field required.  Master’s degree preferred.

 

Skills: 

  1. Effective oral and written communication.
  2. Knowledgeable of medical staff services and credentialing requirements.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office operation of credentialing data base management and spreadsheet applications.
  4. Knowledgeable of Joint Commission Medical Staff standards and CMS Medical Staff requirements and regulations.
  5. Possesses skillful planning and organizational skills to facilitate working with health care professionals in explaining procedures, coordinating medical staff affairs/activities, and reviewing draft of material prepared for approval.
  6. Comprehensive working knowledge of medico-legal issues and laws, regulatory agency requirements and standards.
  7. Demonstrated effective and responsive interpersonal and management skills.
  8. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  9. High-degree of independent judgment, problem solving and decision-making abilities, flexibility, perseverance and fortitude.
  10. Daily problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
