Job Description:

Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer to lead Engineering Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) within our Deep Space Portfolio, part of the Space Systems division. The ideal candidate will have a robust technical background and experience in project management, particularly in aerospace or related fields.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of all engineering tasks for the Deep Space Portfolio, ensuring alignment with both internal and external customer expectations.
  • Take direction from Engineering Leads for projects involving Lunar/Mars Transport Platforms, Orbital Platforms, and Surface Platforms.
  • Oversee the development of components for Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) and Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for the Orion Spacecraft and Gateway Lunar Space Station modules, including the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO).
  • Manage pursuits involving ATCS and ECLSS components for the Exploration Command Module (Mars Transit Vehicle), Gateway Airlock, Gateway International Habitat (I-HAB), Lunar Landers, Pressurized Rover, and Surface Power and Fuel Cells for Lunar Infrastructure.
  • Implement world-class project management processes, including integrated scheduling, earned value management, and risk and opportunity management.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering disciplines (Systems, Software, Mechanical, Electrical), Programs, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to develop and execute plans that meet customer requirements across various operating conditions.
  • Facilitate project tasks across functional organizations to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Monitor and track the team's performance against the integrated execution plan.
  • Identify and address execution problems, recommending and implementing solutions to ensure successful project completion.
  • Forecast project revenues, monitor costs, and re-estimate project costs monthly to maximize profitability and meet business objectives.
  • Prepare and present plans and progress reports on the business aspects of the project(s) to track progress and meet established targets.
  • Balance the demands of multiple projects effectively.
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for field returns and production issues.
  • Develop bids based on customer proposal requests.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance project execution efficiency.
  • Uphold superior ethical and professional behavior in all situations.
  • Communicate directly with customers, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Work effectively as a cross-functional team member.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or in the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong technical background and experience in project management, particularly in aerospace or related fields.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering teams and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement effective solutions.
  • Experience with integrated scheduling, earned value management, and risk and opportunity management.
  • Commitment to ethical and professional behavior in all situations.
