About The Role

The Presidio Trust is seeking an Accounting Manager of Accounting Operations to plan and direct various accounting activities within the Division of Finance and Business Management. Once an Army Base, the Presidio of San Francisco is now a new kind of national park. The 1,500-acre Presidio is richly layered in history, is a natural oasis for wildlife, plants, and people, and offers iconic views known around the world. In its third decade as a park, public awareness and enjoyment of this exceptional place continues grow.

The Accounting Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with federal accounting standards, and providing strategic financial guidance. This position manages a team of accounting professionals, maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and contributing to the development of fiscal policies. The Accounting Manager is a key member of the management team within the Presidio Trust Finance division.

Our ideal candidate brings a strong mix of both technical accounting and leadership skills, as well as a positive attitude and a life-long desire to learn.

Responsibilities

Oversee and manage the day-to-day financial operations of assigned functional areas, including general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, borrowing, fixed assets, grant administration, treasury, financial reporting and other financial analyses. Supervise the accounting function, including month-end close transactions, year-end close activities, audits, and external reporting; preparing schedules and work plans, and working directly with staff, auditors, consultants, and other departments to ensure accuracy and timely completion. Lead, manage and develop assigned team by providing guidance, setting goals, providing ongoing training and performance feedback, and maintaining strong employee relationships. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment to promote teamwork and productivity. Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations. Perform ad hoc financial analysis for leadership and executive teams to support decision-making. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting. Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements. Coordinate and participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with federal standards. Ensure documents sent to auditors are timely, complete, and reflective of the proper accounting treatment. Address audit findings and implement corrective actions as necessary. Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of financial management systems used by the Agency. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises a team of up to four professionals, including Senior Accountant(s), Accountant(s), and Accounting Technician(s). Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and providing feedback and development; certifying timesheets; authorizing time off; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field with at least twenty-four (24) semester hours in Accounting. Eight (8) years of progressive experience in financial accounting, or. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the required work. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in financial management systems and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications. Effective communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial information to diverse audiences. Critical thinker with attention to detail, who can seek innovative solutions to complex business/technical issues. Strong multi-tasking, project management, organization, and prioritization skills. Completion of successful employment background investigation required.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree or CPA certification preferred. Experience with Oracle Financials and knowledge of federal accounting standards, regulations, and compliance requirements desired but not required.

Background Investigation and Review

The Presidio Trust has identified this position as subject to a standard employment background investigation which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license, and a credit report. An individual’s granting of a background investigation and resulting report is voluntary, however, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the investigation. The Trust may refuse to hire an individual, rescind an offer of employment, or review and terminate the employment of a current employee who does not successfully complete a background investigation.
