Global Metrology Engineer

Job Summary:
Supports Technimark NPD and customer development/engineering activities and Technimark operations using advanced metrology engineering methods. Develops, plans, and executes metrology methodologies and techniques, validations (DQ/IQ/TMV/OQ/PQ), and inspections. Responsible for identifying potential failure modes and risks with designs and processes associated with new and transferred products to Technimark. Performs root cause analysis for measurement system errors, implements corrective actions, and ensures corrective actions are effective. Supports data acquisition and reporting programs for metrology activities. Analyzes and interprets data and inspection results and writes detailed reports for presentation internally and externally. Applies the fundamental and advanced concepts in analytic geometry techniques and procedures of the advanced quality specialization, particularly for metrology.
Knowledge | Experience | Skills:
• 4-year degree in science, math, or engineering with 2 years of experience in metrology engineering preferred. Relevant experience and demonstrated skills in advanced metrology will be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree. Ability to develop written procedures and perform technical report writing required. Good communication and interpersonal skills required. Must be proficient in statistical data analysis and test plan development. Must be proficient in measurement system analysis and test method validation techniques and possess understanding of metrology techniques. Basic understanding of GD&T and Solid Modeling required. Ability to design or technically describe for design of fixtures required for metrology is required. A general knowledge of quality systems, ISO standards, and measurement equipment calibration techniques is necessary. Experience in metrology equipment programming is required. Training in advanced metrology techniques including any programming experience in PCDMIS, Calypso, Zone 3 offline, WinWerth, Geomagic Control X, GOM Volume Inspect or PolyWorks from 3D models preferred. Experience with Python or similar scripting is highly desirable. Working knowledge of Datum Reference System, 6 DoF or familiar with Analytic Geometries in 3D. Scanning equipment (surface or volumetric) familiarity is preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Interfaces with internal and external customers to define, interpret, and understand customer requirements and specifications.
• Translates the customer requirements into TM specifications for new product development in conjunction with customer engineering.
• Supports development of test methods and test method validation plans.
• Supports development of metrology techniques and standards for inspection procedures including work instructions for execution.
• Supports shop floor data acquisition, tracking and trending of data, and SPC initiatives globally.
• Supports complaint investigation, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions along with continuous improvement activities.
• Supports and executes product drawing reviews and critical dimension analyses.
• Effectively translates blueprints or drawings into measurement strategies using a variety of measurement tools including Optical and Touch Probe CMMs, Optical Comparators, manual gages and precision measuring instruments.
• Defines and executes measurement analyses including repeatability, reproducibility, multivariate Gage R&R, Measurement Tool Correlation, etc.
• Executes metrology tasks with requirements from ISO 10360, ISO 17025, and ASME GD&T 14.5 as necessary.
• Globally supports data acquisition and reporting programs for metrology.
