ROLE of the POSITION
The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist provides consultation and guidance to employees and managers to promote and support effective working relationships. The ideal candidate will make sound decisions while maintaining the highest level of discretion and confidentiality is self-motivated in a fast-paced environment, and can work independently and with a team.
A flexible hybrid work schedule may be available.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision or guidance of the Director of Employee Relations or Senior Employee Relations Specialist, this position will:
Provide walk-in and outreach assistance to employees and managers regarding federal, state, and university HR regulations, policies, procedures, and practices.
Partner with management to mediate and resolve day-to-day conflicts or issues. Provide guidance to management and supervisors when determining appropriate action for employee development and performance management, including coaching, training, letters of instruction, or progressive discipline.
Develop, compile, and maintain templates and documents related to employee relations.
Assist management and supervisors with the development of documents used to address performance management and behavior concerns.
Provide advice and counsel on the annual evaluation process, including assisting managers with development plans and advising on time sensitivity in accordance with the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC).
Partner with management to conduct internal investigations regarding employee relations issues. Partner with the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX and other compliance units to assist with investigations/complaints regarding discrimination based on a protected class.
Review survey data to identify successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Share data with leadership and make recommendations for improvement.
Facilitate and participate in various employee relations training as assigned. Review and recommend targeted training to help address employee or department concerns.
Maintain ER files, database workflow, and metrics for reporting, ensuring accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Prepare unemployment reports and responses and represent the university at hearings.
Oversee and coordinate employee records requests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 1-year comparable experience OR an associate's degree and three years' comparable experience OR a high school diploma/GED and five years' comparable experience.
Working knowledge and understanding of policy and procedures related to employment that may include, complaints, grievances, performance management and evaluations, coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline.
Ability to organize and work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to exercise independent and good judgment, sound decision making, and complex critical thinking skills.
Effective and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze and evaluate complex issues and develop creative, responsive solutions.
Ability to develop, coordinate, and present training on topics of expertise or as assigned.
