SUMMARY:


The Student Success Intern will report to the Director of Student Success, to ensure all students have access to supports necessary for their optimal academic achievement and career goals. The Student Success Advisor will adhere to the Student Success Center advising mission in taking a holistic case-management approach to supporting each student’s individual needs. This is a part-time, temporary, paid internship for the 2024-2025 academic year. The target start date is August 13,2024, and the end date is May 16, 2025. Specific shift schedules are flexible.

JOB DUTIES:
●Manage a diverse caseload of approximately 200 undergraduate students to provide direct services to plan schedules, create and assess academic and career goals, connect to resources and provide information pertinent to student success based on the individual’s needs.
●Monitor student success through program participation, academic performance, campus engagement, retention, and career trajectory using university technology and fostering close relationships.
●Keep detailed notes on student interaction using the Advising Student Profile.
●Create timely, consistent, responsive, and effective communication to students with information pertinent to their individual success.
●Collaborate with the Office of Admissions, Career Services, Disability Services, University Advising Center and other academic departments to ensure students’ needs are met.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
●Knowledge of, and interest in a career in academic advising and/or student services.
●Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently.
●Excellent self-motivation, written communication skills, and the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff.
●Skill in effective oral and written communication.
●Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet.
●Experience with diverse populations, and an understanding of the challenges facing first-generation college students and students from under-served backgrounds.
●Ability to exhibit initiative, enthusiasm, teamwork and collaboration with faculty, staff and students.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
●Is a strong communicator and collaborator, has excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and flexibility in problem-solving.
●Has invested interest in the role of student success and academic advising through education and/or experience.
●Has a well-articulated philosophy of student success and advising which matches the holistic and case-management philosophy of the college.
●Will maintain involvement in student success-related professional development opportunities for ongoing knowledge of best practices.
●Has a current understanding of theoretical models, best practices, and contemporary issues in student development, effective practices supporting successful student support services and retention.
●Is familiar with, or open to learning about, the culture of a small 4-year private institution.
●Demonstrates an inclusive disposition, showing respect and appreciation for human differences (national origin, ethnicity, religious belief, culture, gender, disability, etc.).
●Is proficient in using technology to support student success and daily functions (including, but not limited to: BannerWeb, Banner9, DegreeWorks, Slate, Argos, Microsoft Suite, and Google Apps). Be open to learning new technologies as required for continuous improvement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required. Must be currently pursuing a Master’s degree, preferably in fields of counseling or higher education.
