SUMMARY:

The Academic Support Intern will report directly to the Director of Student Success, ensuring that all students have access to the necessary resources for their academic and career achievements.

This role will adhere to the mission of the Student Success Center by employing a comprehensive case-management strategy to address each student's unique requirements.

This is a part-time, temporary, paid internship designed for the academic year, with flexible scheduling options available.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee a varied caseload of approximately 200 undergraduate students, providing direct assistance in planning academic schedules, establishing and evaluating academic and career objectives, and connecting students to essential resources tailored to their individual needs.
  • Track student progress through program involvement, academic performance, campus participation, retention rates, and career development, utilizing university technology and fostering strong relationships.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student interactions using the Advising Student Profile.
  • Deliver timely, consistent, and effective communication to students, providing information crucial to their individual success.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions, Career Services, Disability Services, University Advising Center, and other academic departments to ensure the fulfillment of students' needs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Interest in and knowledge of academic advising and/or student services.
  • Proven ability to effectively solve problems and independently initiate and implement projects.
  • Strong self-motivation, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation college students and those from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, teamwork, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, and flexibility in problem-solving.
  • Genuine interest in student success and academic advising through education and/or experience.
  • A well-defined philosophy of student success and advising that aligns with the holistic and case-management approach of the institution.
  • Commitment to participating in professional development opportunities related to student success to stay informed about best practices.
  • Current understanding of theoretical models, best practices, and contemporary issues in student development, as well as effective practices supporting successful student services and retention.
  • Willingness to learn about the culture of a small private institution.
  • Demonstrates inclusivity and respect for human differences (national origin, ethnicity, religious belief, culture, gender, disability, etc.).

  • Proficient in utilizing technology to enhance student success and daily operations (including, but not limited to: BannerWeb, Banner9, DegreeWorks, Slate, Argos, Microsoft Suite, and Google Apps).

Willingness to adapt to new technologies as needed for continuous improvement.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree required. Must be actively pursuing a Master's degree, preferably in counseling or higher education.
