Location: Berwick, PA

This position will work directly with the Safety Manager, Human Resources Department, and the Facility Manager and will be responsible for coordinating and executing the organization's safety and security programs.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Leads safety training and safety audits at Berwick, PA facility and distribution centers to ensure compliance with company safety and safety related procedures and policies.
  • Lead and support a Safety Committee.
  • Assist in coordinating fire and other emergency drills.
  • Be available to help with emergencies and special projects as necessary.
  • Coordinates safety accident investigations in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs.
  • Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Partners with management to identify and implement corrective actions resulting from safety audits, self-inspections, hazard assessments, and compliance inspections.
  • Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Submits company related incidents to SIGO for tracking and compliance.
  • Works with Facility Manager to assist with environmental safety information and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ensures safety, housekeeping, and general security

  • Identify and address all housekeeping and safety concerns
  • Investigate and follow up with Safety Manager on near misses, accident reports, and behavioral concerns.
  • Alert and submit work orders to maintenance of safety/housekeeping concerns
  • Identifies facility environmental issues and coordinates a plan with Facility Manager
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.
  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

  • At least five years of safety and security experience required preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred.
