SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician II / HVAC performs tasks related to maintaining and improving the facility infrastructure to provide a safe, functional, and attractive environment for the campus community. This position requires mechanical aptitude and experience in the maintenance and repair of various H.V.A.C equipment, pumps, motors, kitchen equipment, lighting, minor electrical systems (under 277/vac.), plumbing systems, masonry, painting, and miscellaneous carpentry. This position is considered essential personnel by the University and therefore will be required to work during school closures, weather and other related incidents. This position also requires work evening, weekends and holidays as needed and is part of the on-call rotation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair of campus equipment, buildings and grounds including but not limited to H.V.A.C., plumbing or electrical, carpentry, painting, masonry. Assist with set-up / break-down, and staffing for special events. Provide on-call and after-hours coverage. Assist the mechanical and general maintenance team. Operate light or medium weight trucks and equipment to include tractors and snow removal equipment if required. Remain engaged and up-to-date and informed as to current practices of job-related functions. Display the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups. Perform all assigned duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures and in compliance with all OSHA, EPA, and other local, state, and federal government laws and regulations. Complete daily work orders and Preventative Maintenance items. Turn in completed paperwork at the end of each shift worked. Ensure service slips, packing slips, and completed paperwork are returned back to the Facilities office daily. Perform any additional duties as assigned. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and is a part of the on call rotation. Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required, associate degree or related trade certification strongly preferred. At least 3 years of experience in HVAC and one or more other trades, boiler training certification strongly preferred. This is an intermediate level position where intermediate skills in one or more trades (H.V.A.C., plumbing or electrical, carpentry, painting, masonry) are mandatory, and a working knowledge of at least one other trade is desired. This position can function independently or may lead small project teams. Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints. Must have basic computer knowledge, ability to use Outlook, Word and Excel and familiarity with any computerized work order system is a plus. Must be able to deal with members of the campus community with courtesy and tact. Must possess a valid driver's license, subject to MVR check. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain effective relations with supervisor and fellow employees. Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used.
