The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing Advisory and/or Supervisory services for the installation/repair of mechanical equipment. Gain the necessary experience to become proficient in the operation of Metso equipment and systems. Coordinate with the customer, customers sub-contractor, Metso labor, Metso sub-contractor, and Project Manager to insure timely completion of erection/installation. Troubleshooting to solve fabrication errors relative to proper installation and to solve operation problems. The Field Service Engineer position requires a talent for working with other people, fellow employees, customers, contractors. Must be capable of making quick, accurate decisions relative to problem solution & problem liability. Must be able to maintain accurate records and communicate reliable information thru detailed technical reports. Working closely with the Service Project Manager, Field Service Manager, Field Technician Manager, and General Manager of Field Service is required. Project the image of Metso as the service-oriented company to depend on for competent technical support on equipment for maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and operation. 

This position is mainly located in Salt Lake City, UT. This role may involve up to 70% of travel. 

What you’ll do

Installation and commissioning of systems, machinery and associated spare parts and wear material components.  Perform technical evaluations and analyze equipment and machine component failures.  Promote products and services to customers.  Promote the sales of OEM spare parts and wears material components.  Support field service technicians and carry out hands on mechanical service work within the customer site or repair facilities if required.  Supervise Field Service projects on customer site.  Complete field inspections per global procedures. Escalate questions and analysis to Technical Support and Engineering.  Prepare site reports, time sheets and expenses after site visits.  Support quotation work by providing scope of work, initial planning and costing information.  Support solution defining for LCS solutions by providing solution details and scope of work.  Promote Technical Support value add and support Technical Support Teams.  Support warranty process and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) where applicable.  Trigger maintenance of CRM with Eq. operational information. Link Service Reports to equipment information in the Installed base.  Identify equipment in the field at the customer site that is not in our installed base, trigger data basic data input into CRM.  Other duties as assigned. 

Who you are 

Associate degree in engineering discipline preferred.  Prior field service experience preferred.  Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.  Must have a talent for working with other people effectively, fellow employees, customers, contractors.  Capability of making quick, accurate decisions relative to problem solution and problem liability.  Must be well organized and able to maintain accurate records and communicate reliable information through detailed technical reports.  Mechanical and/or electrical and instrumentation knowledge and abilities a must.  Capability to understand the various product applications marketed by Metso.  Ability to read and interpret imperial and metric tape measurers, dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, and engineering and architectural drawings. Ability to travel frequently with extended durations (1 week to 6 weeks).  Occasional international travel may be required with durations (1 week to 8 weeks).

Ability to use all extremities to efficiently operate manual tools, power tools, office and computer equipment.  Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.  Climbing of, and working on, stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, occasionally at extreme heights, is required.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus and ability to read engineering drawings, meters, and documentation.  Ability to hear audible warning horns.  Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
