Position Description

The Central Sterile Supply department is responsible for instrument processing and OR case carts, central sterile processing, decontamination, sterilization, case cart processing, physician preference cards management, commodities management, instrument tracking management, off-site instrument processing management in the James, the sterile disposable supply inventory for case carts and selected reusable equipment. Equipment processed includes surgical instruments and utensils. Case cart production, instrumentation preparation, sterilization, and maintenance is coordinated with the Operating Room and obstetrical personnel for UH, James Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery rooms and The Ross Heart Hospital. The CSS maintains a 24-hour a day, seven days a week operation. Ordering and maintaining inventory, liaison between CSS and the Operating rooms. Ability to work in all areas of the department when needed

This position needs to serve as a clinical liaison between the Operating Rooms and the CSS offsite location to track and allocate sterilized instrumentation across the Enterprise. This position will also be responsible for procuring, maintaining and standardizing instrument trays across the Enterprise. This position will be utilized 24/7 in multiple reprocessing sites across the Health System, to include Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, Same Day Surgery, University Hospital East and all Ambulatory sites.

The inventory control specialist promotes customer service and patient satisfaction through effective communication with Operating Room clinical operations and multiple sterile processing departments across the Medical Center. The role is responsible for ordering, procuring and organizing all equipment and instruments required for surgeries and medical procedures on a global level to service the entire Enterprise. The inventory control specialist ensures the necessary sterilized supplies are available to be delivered to the point of use when needed.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field

2 years of inventory management experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Sterile Supply experience preferred.

Experience with background and product knowledge to perform inventory management in general and medical commodities.

Crisp verbal skills; effective listening skills; effective facilitation skills; demonstrates high energy.

Persistent drive for results utilizing sound project management, organizational and problem solving skills.

Ability to make sound business judgments related to strategic supply philosophies and initiatives.

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification is preferred.
