Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

To support, implement, and maintain Optical support in Quality as well as Plant initiatives at HCP to drive continuous improvement of Quality, Safety, Cost, Delivery, and Morale.

Travel Requirements:

5% travel for Catawba County OASYS Support as needed

Hours of work/work schedule: 

8am to 5pm with rotational on-call support after business hours and holidays

Required Education, Desired Years and Area of Experience:

High School Diploma  5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment preferred. Solid understanding of Quality management systems.

 This position will lead and provide support for Quality objectives as follows:

OTDR Hardware and Software Maintain optical equipment for local manufacturing sites. Maintain buffer fiber pigtails for OTDR equipment. Provide preventative maintenance and repairs on OASYS Ribbon Handlers, multi-fiber cleavers, single fiber cleavers, ribbon clips, thermal strippers, and 8-Ball end detector.  Provide day-to-day problem-solving support to production operations for optical equipment.  Identify and implement hardware/software improvements and cost reduction projects based on analysis of performance against critical to quality attributes. Provide periodic training classes for Maintenance and In-process/Final QC areas on optical equipment. Create and maintain documentation related to optical test equipment TL compliance. Drive fundamental understanding of software and hardware improvement opportunities. Execute benchmark improvements through Change Management system. Lead optical software/hardware improvements and upgrades. Lead optical communication meetings.

Required Skills: 

Advanced level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint Creative/innovative problem solving  Strong technical fundamental Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions Results oriented and high commitment The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly Write technical reports  Able to work within a team environment, understand urgency of deadlines, and follow tasks to completion. Interface with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Warehouse, Purchasing and Technology as needed. Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations. Ability to work with little instruction for routine work. Some physical lifting is required. The job can be physical, requiring standing on feet most of day; stooping, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Desired Skills: 

Knowledge of products, PCPD understanding, PQA philosophy and fundamentals. Statistical analysis Soft Skills: Good verbal/written communication and presentation skills. Interpersonal skills – engaging, enabling, open. Rigorous problem solving.  Planning and organization.  Effective in managing multiple priorities

The range for this position is ​$29.75 hourly rate - $34.50 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
