Responsibilities

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the delivery of optimal patient care utilizing the Nursing Process, and adhering to standards of care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Exhibits critical thinking and problem solving skills. Performs complete, accurate documentation (PIs, data collection, admission assessments, POC, in accordance with policies and procedures. Identifies individualized patient/significant other’s learning needs and implements appropriate measures to address identified knowledge deficits. Demonstrates knowledge, respect, and sensitivity concerning patients’ rights. Serves as a patient advocate. Assures confidentiality of patient information. Maintains effective communication with all staff, physicians, patients, families and other departments. Participates in the development of standards and unit performance improvement activities.

Clearly communicates pre and post-op instructions to patient and family members. Coordinates and reviews pre-op testing prior to procedure. Identifies and responds to post-procedure complications. Discharges patients from the Ambulatory Surgical Unit and transfers patients to individual nursing units for admission. Performs Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) according to the Nursing Department’s Policy and rets abnormal/critical value BGM results and performs appropriate interventions Utilizes restraint alternatives, follows Fall Protocols and follows hospital policy regarding patient identification. 

Position will work at both the Dobbs Ferry and Andrus Pavilions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Currently licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. ASU and PACU experience required.
