Eliot’s Homeless Services Division is seeking creative/strengths-based Housing First Coordinator for our model of care entitled: Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP). Our TP program provides clinical consultation to the court in eviction cases that are entitled to “reasonable accommodations” due to the presence of a documented mental health or physical disability. Clinicians assist the Housing Court, including judges, mediators, and social service providers, to maintain stable housing for tenants by helping with referrals for treatment and support in order to resolve tenancy issues and prevent eviction. Eliot’s TPP staff may also provide consultation to cases where an eviction is imminent and additional community support services are needed.

Successful candidates will have unwavering empathy, as well as an open mind in terms of pathways to recovery/harm reduction when collaboratively working with people experiencing homelessness, medical complexity, and/or untreated behavioral health concerns (e.g. PTSD). Housing Coordinators will identify and address barriers to obtaining and maintaining long term sustainable housing utilizing a housing first approach within this cutting-edge multidisciplinary team model (e.g. specialized treatment modalities to address post-traumatic stress, Recovery Coaching, in the field Psychiatry/MAT). Working knowledge of area resources/providers is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that consumers are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with ECHS’ Human Rights Policy.  Provide initial assessment of individuals referred by the Housing Court, Legal Services, the Department of Mental Health, or another authorized referral source. Create individual case management/clinical plan in collaboration with the person served; identifying root cause of current housing instability, coordinate treatment action steps and measurable goals, interventions, and outcomes to prevent homelessness and stabilize current housing situation if possible. Provide linkages across agencies through intensive clinical assessment and identification of consumer needs with the goal of preventing homelessness, either through stabilization of the current tenancy or through securing alternative housing. Maintain a thorough, current knowledge of local public and private resources including entitlement/benefit programs, housing, residential, and other community services. Maintain effective working relationships with collaborative resources. Possess a working knowledge of Massachusetts Housing Law, Tenant and Landlord rights and responsibilities, including the eviction process Work collaboratively with Court appointed Housing Specialists to resolve disputes between Tenants/Landlord referred to the Housing Court. Assist in the de-escalation and problem solving between both parties as well as identification of solutions to current tenancy issues. Coordinate collection of data required by grant/funding source requirements, complete report requests in accordance with contract requirements and keep material in order and up to date. Coordinate efforts with the Housing Court and the agency to ensure the effective use of resources.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Rehab Counseling, Psychology, or related discipline or 2 years professional experience working with the homeless adult population is required. A Master’s degree in the Healing Arts or Education is strongly preferred.  Working knowledge and/or experience with evaluating eligibility criteria based on disabling condition(s), reasonable accommodation options through Housing Court systems, dispute mediation, and housing and entitlement resources is required. Ability to assess client support systems, develop comprehensive service plans with maximum client input, assess client ability to transition to a supportive Housing First Model, and provide ongoing support services. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with periods of high stress. Must obtain a reliable vehicle and a valid drivers license to provide outreach services. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as needed.

Location:  Boston, MA 

Schedule: Monday - Friday (Ability to work a flexible work schedule contingent upon program needs.)

Salary: Bachelor's degree or applicable experience- $48,000/yearMasters degree- $50,000/year
