Job Description The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office is devoted to making our community a better and safer place for families and crime victims. We fairly, ethically, and truthfully seek justice for all. Under general direction, the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will assess and prepare each case by reviewing the investigation, speaking with witnesses, and assessing any mitigating factors in order to resolve a case through trial or plea negotiations.

This position will supervise the legal division of the Summit County Child Support Enforcement Agency. This division includes a staff of 25 individuals consisting of assistant prosecutors, hearing officers, legal secretaries and support staff, investigators, victim advocates, and child support trainers. Required Qualifications Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.

Licensed to practice law in Ohio and admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio with no history of disciplinary action. Supervise legal team in the child support division that includes assistant prosecutors, administrative hearing officers, investigators, legal secretaries, victim advocates, legal outreach and the child support training team. Supervises by building positive environment, managing workflow, evaluating performance, and providing effective feedback, identifying, and applying career advancement opportunities and helping to resolve employee issues and disputes. Ensure that all court hearings are covered and maintain a regular court schedule for all assistant prosecutors. Supervise and coordinate with SAFE Access team to safely provide child support services to families experiencing domestic violence including training agency staff on family violence and how to identify and speak with families about domestic violence. Serves as liaison with Domestic Relations and Juvenile Courts as well as other agencies and the community. Meets with law enforcement officers, defense attorneys, judges, and court personnel to discuss and review cases. Prepare cases for trial or plea negotiations by reviewing all evidence, facts, and communications with witnesses. Questions and cross examines witnesses. Participates in pre-hearing conferences, issues subpoenas and other appropriate orders relating to the discovery process, prepares for and presents evidence to grand juries. Maintains records, consistently updates case management system, and answers correspondences in a timely fashion. Participates in internal and external conferences and meetings. Independently research, interpret and apply legal and administrative principles to each case. Must stay informed concerning applicable law, rules, procedures, policies, and practices related to family law and the Summit County Prosecutor’s office. Identify changes in child support law that require changes in agency policies and procedures and work with child support training team to write or re-write policies and procedures. Engage in continuing education, both legal and non-legal, to stay up to date on best practices and new ideas. Conduct regular meetings with team members to communicate important changes and resolve issues and concerns. Conducts annual performance evaluations, approves leaves of absence, and prepares payroll for division.
