Job Summary

The Manager of the department will provide oversight of the hospital's Inventory Control and Central Supply departments. Areas included are Shipping/Receiving, print shop, Linens and distribution of medical and surgical supplies. Responsible for coaching departmental Supervisors and staff. Reports to the Director of Materials Management.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 Years of experience in Materials Management to include inventory control and central supply;
3 Years of supervisory experience (can be concurrent with experience in Materials Management)
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Working knowledge of Materiels Management Information Systems;
Experience in budget forecasting and management;
Computer skills which include, but are not limited to, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Essential Functions
  • Provides oversight of Central Supply department to include Shipping/Receiving, Linens and distribution of medical and surgical supplies.
  • Jointly works with nurses, physicians, and other clinical personnel to ensure we have adequate quantities and standardized medical/surgical supplies.
  • Provides assistance to the product evaluation committee(s) in procuring and evaluating new medical surgical supplies and reviews utilization of existing supplies.
  • Provides for timely delivery of services in a cost efficient manner.
  • Monitors the quantity of inventory by minimum/maximum analysis and conducts periodic studies of medical/surgical supply usage levels for all supplies in Central Supply and the patient care storage areas.
  • Ensures all required computer transactions involving receipt, distribution, and issue of warehouse assets are input into the inventory computer system in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Maintains patient care equipment in a clean and usable condition. Ensures preventative maintenance is performed as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize requests based on greatest urgency while maintaining order of services provided.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills in dealing with internal and external customers of all ages and responds appropriately.
  • Maintains a high frequency of interaction with users of service as well as employees.

  • Motivates staff members to perform as a team; sets the example for staff for professional behavior.
  • Fosters a team approach to management.
  • Monitors and maintains a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Assists supervisors with work schedule for the area.
  • Assists with planning and budgeting for the department.
  • Serves as an outgoing, service oriented ambassador of the Materials Management Department.
  • Works closely with the Director of Materials Management as well as other department directors to ensure all needs are met.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Materials Management.
