Position:
Product Manager will haveresponsibility for developing new product roads leading theinnovation process and driving new product initiatives through theproduct development process from ideation to commercialization.Success will ultimately be measured by product vitality (the amountof new product sold each year as a percentage of overall sales) andcontribution margin improvement. This role is the cornerstone ofthe growth plans for the company.
Product Manager work closelywith many departments as well as outside sources:
  • Sales togather market and customer information as well as pricing andprogramdevelopment
  • Overseasfactories and the overseas office to ensure products are developedand launched on time and onbudget
  • Marketingto assist in collateral and other sales tooldevelopment
  • Outsidecontractors for industrial design anddevelopment

SpecificResponsibilities &Duties:
  • Followsthe established Product Development process.
  • Innovation&Ideation
  • Evaluateproduct submissions from inventors
  • Prioritizationof NewProjects
  • Stagegate progression from concept throughcommercialization
  • Coordinatespackaging testing certifications and merchandisingdeployment
  • Workswith attorneys regarding patents andinfringement
  • Ownerand driver of market and competitive information for assign productcategory. Keeps data and insights in repository for theorganization to use in its new product / growth projectplans
  • Managesand drives communication with suppliers Asian suppliers andagencies
  • Profitability– Product Managers will be responsible for profitabilityto Contribution Margin for their respective productcategory
  • Forecastinginvolvement with Sales and Operations. Support upgrades inS&OP forecastingmodels
  • Leadcommunication of respective product lines to Sales CustomersSuppliers and internally to the organization.
  • QualityControl and Assurance development monitoring and coordination withoperations to find corrective actions for identified issues.
  • SupportOperations in identifying developing and maintaining a strongsupplier base for both components and potentially finishedgoods
  • Responsiblefor all general pricing for products within assigned productcategories with the Sales Team and other department as well asinsuring that duties / tariffs are accurate and up to date– all pricing is finalized by the Product Analyst.
  • Reviewsall new government legislation that will impact product and productdevelopment. Maintains a library of all certifications required tomeet governmentregulations.
  • Overseesall product testing and testing requirements necessary to insurethe performance and safety of products that fall within the assignproduct category
Requirements andQualifications:
  • OrganizationalSkills
  • CommunicationSkills – both written and oral must be excellent.Presentation and presentation skills must also be strong enough toeffectively communicate negotiate and/or persuade key stakeholderson product developmentactions
  • ComputerLiterate – Strong in Excel Word PowerPoint MS Projectetc.
  • TechnicalOrientation – a strong interest for exploring technicalsolutions for innovation quality improvement or cost reduction.Must have basic understanding of materials and manufacturingprocesses especiallymetal.
  • Excellentproblem solving and critical thinkingskills
  • HandsOn Likes to get hands dirty. Not afraid to get onto jobsites andtalk to contractors regarding product / applicationfeedback.
  • Resultsoriented – Candidate should well versed in the analysisprocess using measurements and gets excited to find countermeasuresaround roadblocks which keep them from delivering the committedobjective.
  • HighlyEthical – honesty and Integrity are the cornerstone ofthe company. The successful candidate will exemplify a workingstyle of honesty integrity candor and respect for all others in hisor her workenvironment.

  • Abilityto travel. Must be able to travel 25% plus with quarterly visits toAsia.
  • Musthave a strong working knowledge of global sourcing especiallywithinAsia.
  • Regulartrade show involvement as well as assistance in salescalls
Qualifications– ThePerson
  • Bachelor’sdegree required and MBA is aplus
  • Minimum2 years of relevant product developmentexperience
  • Capabilityto travel approximately 25% of the time. Some travel will includeinternational travel to Asia.
EssentialSkills:
  • Verydetailoriented
  • Experiencein working with overseasmanufacturers
  • Familiaritywith formal product development processes i.e. “stagegate”
  • Strongproject management skills with a bias foraction
  • MicrosoftProject experience or other related process management software isaplus
  • Experiencein managing consumer products specifically hardware/tool storageand / outdoor living product would be aplus
