Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, the Donor Relations & Events Manager is a key member of the development team at Feeding San Diego (FSD). This position will manage event planning and execution and fundraising events, oversee annual outreach, stewardship and engagement opportunities for Feeding San Diego’s giving circle of mid-level and major donors, called The Grove. The Donor Relations & Events Manager will also work closely with Relationship Managers to customize stewardship of donors giving $1,000.

Donor Relations – 50%

  • Work closely with the Director of Development, Major Gifts and the Individual Giving Officer to coordinate customized cultivation & stewardship activities and events related to mid-level and major gift donors. Responsibilities may include securing event rentals, catering, design & printing needs, etc.
  • Design, document, and implement a systematic and integrated donor relations program for The Grove circle of donors $1,000+ to include renewal campaigns, panel events, an annual brunch, special volunteer shifts, and other events as needed to fulfill stewardship, engagement and giving opportunities.
  • Coordinate stewardship projects, including holiday cards, impact reports, donor communications, volunteer shifts and other development-related projects, as needed.
  • Proactively support the cultivation and stewardship activities of the Development Department by recommending, assisting with, and coordinating individualized needs for donors according to their relationship to Feeding San Diego.
  • Oversee and maintain SOPs for donor relations.

Event Management – 50%

  • Act as point of contact for internal donor events and Event Consultants contracted for larger signature events.
    • Serve as staff lead for events such as the Grove Brunch, the Pairings with a Purpose dinner parties, and other events. Support with third-party benefit events as needed.
  • Support in tracking, logging, and identifying in-kind donations for auctions, raffles, etc..
  • Create and manage event budgets.
  • Support in logistic planning ranging from arranging catering, coordinating volunteers, supplies, insurance, accessibility, rentals, vendor communications, and other materials as needed.
  • Submit requests and collaborate with MarCom for design and creation of collateral for donor communications, stewardship, gifts, event materials, etc.
  • Manage and execute the donor Gratitude Calling Program. Create reports, submit call assignments, enter completed activities, engage board members in donor stewardship, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee and maintain SOPs for events.

INTERACTION

The Donor Relations & Events Manager interacts closely with development, marketing and communications, programs, operations, and administrative staff, and provides information to staff, donors, prospects, individuals in need, volunteers, FSD board and staff, and others from the community.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, marketing, or a closely related field, along with two years of professional experience in event planning, fundraising and donor relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and sustain positive relationships with donors, team members, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of development principles, fundraising techniques, and ethics
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and an ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • A professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Responsible, well organized, and demonstrating initiative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce is preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred.
  • Be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three years of driving experience.
  • Nights & weekends as required.
  • Be a resident of San Diego County. Feeding San Diego extends a hybrid schedule as an employee benefit, and reserves the right to revoke the hybrid policy, as needed.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under FSD’s insurance carrier standards.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Work in an office adjacent to a warehouse setting with occasional travel to other locations in San Diego County.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel and use hands, arms and legs for dexterity, balance and climbing stairs frequently. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
  • Prioritizes and multi-tasks work and projects requiring good memory, concentration and analytical thinking.
  • Occasionally is required to perform the safe operation of office equipment and machines and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but this office is maintained in a distribution center with machinery and large trucks.
