Penguin Young Readers is looking for a Publishing Assistant to join the Publishing Office. This role offers a great opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and overall marketplace. While this position reports to the two Assistant Directors of Publishing in the publishing office, it offers the chance to work closely with the entire division, including our marketing, publicity, and sales teams as well as the editorial imprints.

The Publishing Assistant will be involved in a wide variety of activities that support Penguin Young Reader’s brands and business development efforts, including sales and marketplace analysis, metadata, product licensing, and administrative tasks. This role is a great opportunity for a driven problem solver and organized multitasker who enjoys tackling interesting and challenging tasks while supporting books for all ages, including series like Mad Libs and authors such as Eric Carle, Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Woodson, and John Green, to name a few. The Assistant should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and have an interest in children’s books.

Responsibilities:

Run regular sales and competitive reports and share that information with various departments across the division, including sales, marketing, and editorial teams Administrative support of publishing office and brand department which includes setting up and running (virtual) meetings, locating materials/jackets/etc., and overseeing divisional hospitality for new hires and authors/agents Prepare PowerPoint presentations and/or Excel grids for meetings including business reviews, conferences, and divisional meetings Provides routine support in a variety of areas, including licensing, brand management, title metadata and description Supports various divisional special projects and research requests, such as an editorial directory update or industry trend deep-dive Process physical product samples from licensing partners Assist with internal events such as author visits, guest speakers, and social events

Requirements:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects Strong organizational skills An interest in the business side of publishing and analysis Strong verbal and written communication skills Flexibility and interest in new challenges and adaptable to changing needs

Preferred Qualifications:

An interest in children’s books Knowledge of and interest in industry trends and topics Aptitude for numbers

The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
