Job Summary 

The Grant and Compliance Specialist’s primary responsibility is to help ensure The Road Home is operating programs in accordance with all grant and funding regulations, as well as within the agency’s own high-quality standards.  The Grant and Compliance Specialist conducts frequent audits, reconciles data, and maintains records in order to produce timely, high-quality, accurate reports. The Grant and Compliance Specialist regularly reviews applicable regulations and contractual obligations to ensure that The Road Home is maintaining grant compliance and serves as the agency expert in each funding area for their assigned grant programs.  The Grant and Compliance Specialist works with program staff to create guidelines that govern business operations for the life cycle of each grant.  The Grant and Compliance Specialist provides guidance and support for multiple departments involved in the grant management process to ensure that all agency programs are maintaining high-quality standards as we work to help people step out of homelessness and back into the community.  Maintaining accurate and up-to-date program guidelines, procedures and work instructions is a critical component of quality assurance.  The Grant and Compliance Specialist may work directly with funding entities and will lead and provide support to all teams for all program monitoring and audit visits. The Grant and Compliance Specialist supports Accounting in ensuring all billings comply with grant requirements and staffing billed to grants is accurate.  The Grant and Compliance Specialist supports applications and contracting for their assigned programs. 

 

This position requires a high degree of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to learn new tasks. This position will interact with many departments of The Road Home and must be able to accept changing roles and priorities as necessary.   The Grant and Compliance Specialist position must meet critical deadlines for reporting and other tasks, therefore this position requires flexible scheduling and the ability to complete tasks on short notice, occasionally outside of normal business hours.  We are looking for a passionate self-starter interested in working for a learning-based agency that operates Utah’s largest emergency shelter and resource center as well as an effective performance-driven housing program for individuals and families exiting homelessness.

Administrative Support Specialist

Requirements

Job Duties 
  • Collaborate with program supervisors to ensure program compliance and fidelity, documentation accuracy, and interdepartmental collaboration 
  • Collaborate with Grants and Compliance and Information Technology (IT) teams to perform regular data and information maintenance tasks to support agency departments 
  • Oversee data reporting processes performed by various agency members and teams, assisting where needed to improve those processes 
  • Collect and analyze data to include in internal and external reports  
  • Complete and distribute data quality feedback mechanisms to appropriate departments 
  • Identify areas for potential improvement, training needs and organize training interventions to meet quality standards 
  • Maintain an organized filing system and develop mechanisms to improve existing systems 
  • Ensure that processes are efficient, streamlined, and mission-focused 
  • Assist with the entire grant management process for assigned programs, including application support, contracting, reporting, billing, expenditures, and regulatory review 
  • Present and participate in training efforts surrounding grant compliance and regulation implementation

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent) - preferred 
  • Experience with Excel - preferred 
  • Experience working with diverse populations – preferred 
  • Experience working with Federal, State or local grant sources - preferred 

Required Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong belief in the Housing First model 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations 
  • Excellent writing and documentation skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access or other database systems 
  • Willing to be a proactive member of a team 
  • Willing to diligently work to complete tasks and projects within deadlines 
  • Ability to work with community partners and familiarity with local homeless systems 
  • Self-starter and self-directed 
  • Positive, energetic personality with a strong work ethic 
  • Dependable and reliable 
  • Ability to take direction and accept feedback from staff at all levels 
  • Able to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism, compassion and from a Trauma-Informed Care perspective. 
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to contribute to the agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.  
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background test and drug screen 

Physical and Equipment Requirements 

  • Lifting up to 25 lbs. (files, file boxes) 
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for at least an hour at a time
