Description

The Division of General Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) seeks a full-time clinical research coordinator to work on studies focusing on improving food insecurity, nutrition, and cardiometabolic health. One study is evaluating a Medicaid program to provide food and housing resources for low-income patients with the goal of improving health outcomes. A second study is testing behavioral economics strategies to implement an evidence-based nutrition ranking system within a large Boston-based food bank and affiliated food pantries. A third study is testing a community health worker-delivered nutrition interventions for patients with poorly controlled hypertension. The clinical research coordinator (CRC) will be an integral part of the study team, working closely in collaboration with other research coordinators and staff, including physicians, health policy researchers, epidemiologists, and dietitians. The CRC will participate in recruitment, enrollment, and data collection by phone or on site food pantries. The CRC will work directly under the supervision of the Principal Investigators. This position is an excellent opportunity for those interested in gaining clinical and research experience related to public health, social determinants of health, nutrition, health behaviors, and implementation science.

Key Responsibilities:

The clinical research coordinator will be responsible for:

·Direct interaction with study participants (health center patients, food pantry staff and clients), including serving as primary contact for study participants, tracking subjects throughout study, and facilitating data collection.

·Conducting interviews and surveys by phone or in person.

·Entering data into the study databases and working with other research coordinators and the data manager to organize and streamline the data collection process.

·Coding qualitative interview data.

·Submitting applications to the Institutional Review Board in collaboration with the other Clinical Research Coordinator and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

·Assisting with data cleaning and management.

·Participating in study-related meetings

·Conducting occasional literature reviews

·Assisting with abstract and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

Position Requirement:

·A bachelor’s degree is required

·Experience working in a research setting is desired

·Previous experience with data entry/computer databases is desired

·Experience with the Institutional Review Board application process

·Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail

·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to speak comfortably in front of groups of people

·Ability to work independently

·Ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a research team

·Ability and willingness to learn new research and study-related skills.

·Ability to work with participants around sensitive issues and maintain patient confidentiality

Computer work and most study meetings will occur in the Division of General Internal Medicine offices at 100 Cambridge Street. Some data collection takes place on site at food pantries, and travel to these sites is required. The working schedule is currently a structured hybrid model of working in the office 3 days a week and from home 2 days a week but is subject to change at the discretion of the Principal Investigator.
