Job Description

Under general supervision, the Financial Specialist coordinates the financial functions related to a department(s). These functions include but are not limited to maintaining, monitoring, and tracking expenditures, accounts, internal controls, and other functions designated by the unit administrator. Directly impacts the University goal of increasing research expenditures through the effective management of accounts.

Essential Duties

Assist with account reconciliation and maintenance for multiple units within the Knowledge Enterprise under the Institutes and Initiatives area. Maintain and make necessary adjustments to various records and/or logs such as journals, property records, accounting adjustments, or payroll redistributions. Verify amounts and accounting codes on various business documents for accuracy. Balance entries and make necessary corrections. Perform weekly P-Card verifications reports in the financial system. Including reconciliation of assigned P-cards. Maintain files containing supporting documentation for reconciliation purposes. Working with cashiering to complete deposits. Assist with reviewing and processing staff reimbursement requests. Assist with payments to supplier invoices either directly to the supplier or against active Purchase Orders. May compile routine numerical information for report purposes by hand or by running routine recurring reports on internal computer records. Identify specific areas and solutions for process improvement, and draft changes to methods, procedures, and work instructions. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand user needs, requirements, and requests. Experience in customer service roles with high quality standards. Experience in following directions set by supervisor. Experience in Financial reporting Experience in Office O office (excel, word, outlook) Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

 Standard Working Environment: Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position. Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer. Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties. Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
