This leadership position is uniquely designed to facilitate further integration and growth of the SHP clinical enterprise between departments and across the institution. The Chair holds a full-time, 12-month appointment as faculty with administrative and clinical responsibilities and reports to the Dean of the School of Health Professions. It is anticipated the majority of time will be dedicated to clinical effort. The Chair has oversight of the P&O department’s clinical operations, works in collaboration with the P&O Program Director on academic programming and supports departmental research activities. This role involves working collaboratively with university administrators, medical school department chairs, faculty and staff to achieve shared goals for continued clinical growth and educational excellence.

Candidates should possess a medical degree or doctoral degree. Preference will be given to applicants with direct rehabilitation experience in prosthetics & orthotics or related practice areas. Candidates whose career includes clinical care must have appropriate licensure to be eligible to engage in clinical practice in the State of Texas. Applicants should also have significant clinical experience, as well as involvement in higher education administrative leadership roles. Applicants must provide evidence of leadership ability, fiscal management skills, personnel management, as well as scholarly achievement. The most competitive applicants will have a successful and well recognized research program with a record of extramural funding and high quality research publications. It is preferred that research programs and interests be focused in the clinical research arena with an emphasis on translational / patient-oriented research. Applicants should be qualified for appointment within the School of Health Professions at the level of either Associate Professor or Professor. Academic rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
