Overview:

The Health Information Management Specialist reports to the Health Information Manager at Central Health. Thisposition is responsible for processing all medical record release of information request, organizing, and maintaining health data in the electronic medical record as well as processing and indexing all documentation that is scanned into the electronic medical record. The Health Information Management Specialist is also responsible for supporting the organization, accuracy, and completion of the patient's medical record.

**This position will work at least 50% of their hours on site in the Navigation Center.

Responsibilities:
  • An estimated 90% of staff time is dedicated to off-phone activities, which may include administrative duties such
    as indexing, scanning, and organizing electronic documents, organizing electronic fax records, processing
    medical records request, and supporting the Health Information Management department.
  • An estimated 10% of staff time is dedicated to receiving incoming calls or performing outbound calls to initiate
    contact on behalf of Central Health after receiving a release of information request or department questions.
  • Prepare, scan, and index protected patient health information documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Manage and process all request and inquiries for patient health information, in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
    by obtaining proper authorizations.
  • Corresponds timely to requests for release of protected patient health information via walk-in, telephone,
    written, fax, and referral while ensuring the appropriate information is released.
  • Process and complete assigned workqueue as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all federal and state guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensures to follow and adhere to Health Information Management policies and procedures for Central Health.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patients and staff.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule and meet or exceeds identified HIM metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

PREFERRED EDUCATION: N/A

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
1 year of Experience in a healthcare setting.
1 year of previous experience in a clerical or data entry environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
1 year Experience in a Health Information Management department

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician
