Responsibilities:
Job purpose:

To foster partnership with local communities, raise awareness about cancer prevention and treatment sources, organize outreach events, and provide support to patients and their families. This role aims to enhance the Mitchell Cancer Institute's presence and impact within the community by facilitating collaboration and education initiatives.

 

Essential job functions:

Plans, promotes, and coordinates efforts for large awareness campaigns, including collecting analytics on reach and funds raised; manages large scale outreach events, including planning, procurement of vendors, organizing volunteers, and all aspects of event planning from design and invitations to menu selection and event coordination; trains community health workers, survivors, and volunteers; nurtures new and old relationships with collaborative local, state, and national partners; maintains calendar of outreach activities, including community activities, workshops; coordinates and conducts community cancer/wellness events; attends outreach events induding church fairs, health fairs, wellness fairs, and community events with vendor tables available for the purpose of raising awareness about cancer; attends local and state community cancer/wellness related meetings: represents the division of Cancer Control and Prevention at both national and statewide meetings and conferences; oversees, plans, develops and implements the monthly Lunch and Learn Cancer Care Education programs in Mobile and Fairhope; qualitative and quantitative data collection and assistance with data interpretation as well as disseminating results; assists with research projects in the Division of Cancer Control and Prevention with the Principal Investigator both under supervision and working independently; researches projects to include assisting with study design and methodology as relates to community engagement for human subjects' behavioral research, epidemiological studies, intervention design and implementation, and other population-based scientific study; assists in the development of scientific manuscripts and presentations utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic medical record systems, survey and data collection systems, and data analysis systems; seeks grant opportunities with focus on community engagement and outreach; assembles application packages for grants; enters and maintains data into protected data systerns; assists with data analysis and prepares visualization tools to disseminate; determines program eligitility, recruits, schedules, and performs follow-up with program participants as protocol dictates for participatory research projects; recruits participants by phone and in person in clinics, university, and community events; conducts recruitment events and data collection activities in community settings; travels to various locations to attend recruitment events beyond working hours; assists program participants with enrolling into the program utilizing a PC and obtain informed consent; maintains current contact information for all study participants; performs numerous recruitment, retention, interviewing and data collection activities as required to meet the needs of the protocol with an intentional focus of recruiting minority men and women in difficult to reach populations; collects and records participant data in a clinical setting per protocol; performs retention activities to aid in recovering enrolled participants who have not completed study activities; assists with the development, editing, and proofing of recruitment materials, questionnaires, and progress reports so that the content and language of recruitment materials and questionnaires appeal and are appropriate for target population; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in community health, public health, or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and two years of related experience. Directly related experience in outreach, recruitment, marketing, and/or sales may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
