Bilingual Family Resource Specialist

Are you a parent who has participated in the Early Steps/Early Intervention journey with your child? The Developmental Center for Infants and Children is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Bilingual Family Resource Specialist (FRS) to utilize your firsthand knowledge to provide invaluable assistance, support, and education to families with children (ages 0-36 months) of varying abilities in Central Florida.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Coordination: Strategize and execute educational and social events aimed at fostering support and connections among families in the Central Florida Early Steps program.
Parent Workshops/Webinars Participation: Engage in Parent Workshops/Webinars, facilitating sessions on essential topics such as Transition from Early Steps to the School System, Individualized Education Plans, and Positive Parenting. Provide a supportive environment for families to share experiences and learn from expert presenters.
Resource Management: Take charge of gathering, organizing, and disseminating essential resources tailored to the needs of families, ensuring accessibility and relevance

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Assist families in navigating Early Steps and the early intervention process from beginning to end as needed. This may include assisting with the developmental evaluation, providing information on available resources to complement early intervention, and visiting with families to better understand their needs and resources.
Facilitate parent/caregiver education by planning, creating, and teaching classes, webinars and workshops centered on child development, early intervention, parenting, and other topics of need.
Plan and execute family involvement activities to promote networking, socialization, and support among families with children with disabilities and developmental delays.
Serve as a resource for families by creating and providing informational material and responding to requests for information about our program and other community resources.
Work directly with families to assess their needs and coordinate relevant services/resources within and beyond the parameters of the Early Steps Program. Work directly with families to assist in resolving disputes with the Early Steps.
Educate and support providers for the families in Early Steps to maximize the satisfaction of every family in the program Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Other Related Functions
Keeps abreast of relevant community services. Attend interagency meetings, in-service training programs and team meetings as delegated by the Manager of the Developmental Center. Participate in statewide meetings.
Collaborates with other Developmental Center staff serving the same families to ensure coordinated care.
Participates with the team in program planning and development; defining and implementing departmental objectives, procedures and policies; and ensuring the continuous improvement of services.
Serves families in a manner that encourages them to make their own choices; responds to the needs and priorities they have established, respects their right to have personal and confidential matters dealt with in a dignified manner; and esteems their ethnic and cultural distinctiveness.
The Family Resource Specialist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the clients served on his or her assigned caseload.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and to possess the ability to assess data reflective of the client’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each client’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policy and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
• High School (H.S.) diploma or General Education Development (GED) plus
Experience
• Two (2) years’ experience working in early childhood development, with families, or related field, to include Six (6) months involvement in the community with knowledge of local resources.
• Must be a parent of a child who received early intervention services or would have been eligible to receive such services, as required by the Florida Department of Health, Children’s Medical Services Infants and Toddler’s Program Plan and Operations Guide (PPOG) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Part C of the Individuals with disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
• Communication skills that will enable successful participation in training events and public speaking presentations.
