The Innovation Lead Consultant is responsible for leading the design and development of the system innovation infrastructure, processes, and capabilities and assumes responsibility of achieving desired results in conjunction with the Director of Business Development. Develops, coordinates, and consolidates agenda items and presentation materials for meetings involving internal and external parties. Provides direction to consultants for the completion of landscape analyses, market research, and capability gap assessments to inform Center for Health Care Innovation strategies, disruptive trends, and develop sourcing strategies for ventures. Cultivates and grows internal network of applicable subject matter experts and advisors while maintaining external network of entrepreneurs and investors who are interested in working closely with YNHHS.

 

About The Center for Health Care Innovation:
The Center for Health Care Innovation is a leading innovation works at Yale New Haven Health System. Founded in 2019 as a joint initiative between the health system and Yale University, the Center is focused on building a culture of innovation at our health system while also making a dynamic contribution to the broader New Haven ecosystem. On a day-to-day basis we build infrastructure and awareness of innovation resources throughout the health system. We also identify, invest in and pilot health innovations that solve real problems and pain points for patients, providers and the health system. In 2022 our Center will design and launch an innovation award that will provide much needed early-stage funding to accelerate and scale the most promising ideas in our ecosystem.

Responsibilities:
1. General Responsibilities
1.1 Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the innovation team; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and accountability.
1.2 Lead the innovation team and engage cross-functional teams towards successful product delivery, including gathering requirements, product development, user experience design, and quality assurance.
1.3 In collaboration with leadership, develops and communicates the business case for the innovation strategic roadmap.
1.4 Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and productivity assessment. Provides input to the Director on performance reviews for staff on assigned teams.

 

2. Internal/Programs

2.1 Plan and facilitate internal educational seminars, proposal calls, pitch events, and other innovation events.

2.2 Oversees and manages internal innovation awards; Evaluates milestones in an effort to build traction and commercial viability.
2.3 Directs coordination and planning efforts of Center for Health Care Innovation activities , engagements, projects.

 

3. External/Pilot

3.1 Leads innovation diligence process and innovation portfolio management including innovation idea prioritization & evaluation, clinical need impact assessment, financial assessment and forecasting, value-adding projection, negotiation, contracting and piloting.

3.2 Plans, assign and monitor internal processes and external meetings to support partnerships/investment deal execution.

3.3 Design and oversee implementation of pilots in partnership with key stakeholders including: clinical champions, ITS, patient experience and operational staff.

 

4. Coordinate project plans for collaboration between YNHHS, YM and portfolio companies.

 

5. Provide constructive feedback to early-stage entrepreneurs and mentorship to internal innovators in select areas.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Advanced Management or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of 10 years of work-related experience. Candidate has had experience in an operating role in healthcare startups is preferred. Ideally has one or more of the following core skills: design thinking, clinical, business/economics, engineering. Strong written and communications skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and high proficiency in Excel. Previous project management or leadership experience required.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Active certification or licensure as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute or a similar project management accreditation.

 

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND:
Must have the ability to travel to various sites across the health system.

- Demonstrated ability to successfully resolve complex problems across multiple departments and /or delivery networks.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:
-As part of a larger innovation team, the employee will report to the innovation director. He/she will be accountable for innovation screening, preliminary due-diligence, vetting, presenting findings, assisting in facilitation of decision making, and driving implementation of funded technologies.
