The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.
Department InformationThe Real Estate and Facilities department reports through the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration of the University System of Georgia (USG). The department provides strategic direction and leadership for the USG in all areas of real estate and facilities management, including campus master planning, capital project development, real estate transactions, design and construction, facilities management and operations, capital repairs, and environmental health and safety.
Responsibilities- Manages the Design and Construction team and develops programs and initiatives to increase staff productivity and efficiency.
- Coordinates with USG institution leadership on capital projects.
- Initiates and updates procedures and criteria to guide the capital project review process.
- Establishes standards for design, design documents and construction.
- Assures the consistency of fee negotiations and the validity of the consultant selection process.
- Oversees design and construction contracts, including establishing project budgets and tracking of funds.
- Serves as the Deputy Building Official and assists in solving design/construction problems.
- Provides outreach and education to third-party design and construction entities on how to work with the University System of Georgia.
- Serves as the facilities ADA coordinator for the University System of Georgia.
- Serves as the primary liaison between USG and Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission - Construction Division
- Prepares agenda items for consideration by the Board of Regents.
- Prepares special reports as directed by the Vice Chancellor for Real Estate and Facilities.
- Preforms other duties as necessary or convenient to the successful operation of the Real Estate and Facilities department.
- Frequent travel to project sites within the State of Georgia.
- A minimum of a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
- At least 10 years of leadership experience in capital programming, capital budget estimating, design administration, construction administration and management, project scheduling, and the administration of capital funds.
- Professional registration as an Architect or Engineer in Georgia preferred.
- Experience in higher education and/or state government preferred.
Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
