Job SummaryThis is a 12-month exempt position which reports to the President of the College. The Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction in all aspects of the College's academic programs and student services which includes, but is not limited to instruction, service, research, scholarship, creative activity, assessment, advising, admissions, and student services.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs oversees the educational policy and programs of instruction of the faculty and all matters relating to the effectiveness and development of the faculty. He/she is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the College's curriculum, for providing leadership and direction for all instructional programs and academic areas, for supporting the faculty's teaching, scholarly, and creative activities, initiating and reviewing curricular reforms, overseeing accreditation of academic programs, preparing and approving all academic budgets, being a leader in the strategic planning process, and advising the President on faculty personnel matters, including hiring, promotion, tenure, and affirmative action policies.
There is an expectation for the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs to be a champion for the College's vision, strategic plan, and other various priorities for the College (customer service, program development, articulation agreements).
ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position include a variety of tasks that contribute to achieving the College-wide goals of increasing visibility, enrollment, and resources. The outcomes of these essential functions also contribute to the College's primary areas of emphasis: (1) Affirming our Identity & Telling Our Story, (2) Preparing Our Students & Adding Value, (3) Engaging Community & Developing Partnerships, (4) Recruiting, Developing, Rewarding, & Retaining Talent, and (5) Developing & Maintaining a strong Enrollment Foundation.
- The Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs may serve in the absence of the President and is the Chief Academic Officer on campus.
- Provide vision, leadership, and direction in all aspects of the College's academic and student success programs, including but not limited to, instruction, service, research, scholarship, and creative activity; Develop and recommend the annual instructional budget.
- Exercise control over all funds allocated for educational and student success programs of the College, ensuring fiscally responsible use of all funds.
- Collaborate with all other divisions of the College, providing strong linkages with student services, recruitment and admissions, information technology, business functions, and fundraising.
- Recommend to the President the appointment, reappointment, tenure, and promotion of faculty members.
- Develop and support continuing assessment and improvement of all academic endeavors at the College.
- Support actively the goal of excellence in all areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Monitor all accreditation issues and ensure that the College seeks and retains accreditation for all academic programs for which recognized accrediting bodies exist.
- Oversee and support operations of the academic and student service units and functions, including the library, academic advising, international programs, admissions, registrar, student support offices, and faculty professional development.
- Recommend to the President the appointment and reappointment of all persons needed to assist in the duties of the position
- Ensure a strong faculty voice in institutional governance.
- Pursue cooperative programs with industry, business, and other educational institutions.
- Make special assignments and, with the concurrence of the President, appoint ad hoc academic advisory committees to address specific issues as the need arises.
- Serve as liaison with the industry advisory boards, and professional organizations whose disciplines are represented in the College's curriculum.
- Serve as liaison with the University System of Georgia for all issues related to academic programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Educational Requirements
The terminal degree from an accredited university in the candidate's academic field is required.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience in academic leadership.
A record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to qualify for tenure in one of the departments at the College.
Understanding of the unique mission of the college.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred Educational Qualifications
A Doctorate is preferred.
