Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Operational Risk Consultant with a focus on governance to join our Operational Risk team. This role will play a key part in strengthening the bank's risk management framework by driving effective governance practices, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, and providing oversight across operational risk domains. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with deep knowledge of operational risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of the operational risk governance framework, policies, and standards.
- Partner with senior risk leaders and business units to ensure governance structures support effective risk oversight and decision-making.
- Coordinate preparation and delivery of risk governance materials for senior management committees, including Board-level committees as needed.
- Ensure consistency and quality in risk reporting, escalation, and issue management processes.
- Monitor adherence to operational risk policies and frameworks, escalating gaps and recommending corrective actions.
- Drive enhancements to governance processes to meet evolving regulatory and industry expectations.
- Facilitate independent challenge of business risk assessments, control testing, and issue remediation.
- Provide subject matter expertise on governance standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the bank's overall operational risk culture.
- Develop risk training materials, presentations for governance and other meetings, and internal and external audits.
- Manage risk team SharePoint sites and shared drives.
- Assist teammates with the development and management of risk programs as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, risk management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in operational risk management, risk governance, or related function within a large bank or financial services firm.
- Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks, governance structures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OCC, FRB, Basel).
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex risk information into clear, concise reports for senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing governance materials for executive and Board-level audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Collaborative mindset with proven ability to influence and challenge constructively across all levels of the organization.
Ability to take initiative on projects, independently anticipate next steps, and quickly adapt to shifting priorities.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and reporting/analytics tools including Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Power BI.
