Clayton Services is searching for a
Controller
to join a startup company in the Tomball area. The
Controller
will start in a hands-on role supporting HR and accounting operations, with the opportunity to grow into a CFO position as the company expands.

Job Type:
Direct Hire

Pay Rate:
$80,000-$90,000/year plus bonus

Benefits:
Vacation; Health Insurance, and 401(k) to be added as the company grows

Controller Responsibilities:

  • Provide HR support, including onboarding, background checks, and credit checks
  • Assist with daily operational needs across the business
  • Perform light accounting functions at first (approx. 10% of time)
  • Transition into full accounting functions such as payroll, inventory, cycle counts, and reconciliations
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and controls
  • Manage financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Oversee payroll and ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements
  • Build and lead an accounting and finance team over time
  • Partner with leadership to align financial strategy with business growth goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Controller Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
  • Eager and ambitious to grow into a CFO role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support HR and operations
  • QuickBooks experience is preferred but not required

Controller Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience
