Job Position: Maintenance Manager

Job Location: West Chicago, IL

Reports To: Plant Manager

Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership for the maintenance department ensuring all plant assets including equipment, buildings, structures and systems are maintained efficiently and within budget constraints. Directs specific attention on managing short and long term objectives of the plant and team. Partners with all levels of the plant's leadership team and place focus on safety and continuous improvement as well as developing efficiencies to maintain standardization.

Establishes covering of all electrical and mechanical equipment within the plant. The individual is responsible for maintaining spare parts for all mechanical equipment within the plant consistent with good operating conditions and minimizing costs. Responsible for security in all maintenance areas.

Job duties/tasks:

  • Direct maintenance functions to assure the plant infrastructure and equipment are kept in a safe, reliable condition with minimum unplanned production downtime.
  • Investigate, analyze, plan, design and direct the execution of a wide variety of maintenance solutions to support the safety, quality, and reliability of the plant equipment.
  • Define, promote and manage lean projects in alignment with Management and Plant maintenance targets.
  • Develop projects using Lean methodology in order to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Analyze results against plans and propose corrective actions, providing coaching and support to ensure successful implementation.
  • Coordinate the inspection, preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance of all plant mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Ensure all maintenance department personnel adhere to all applicable department and plant safety policies, protocols and procedures. Provide short and long term direction and objectives assigned to maintenance staff.
  • Monitor the department employees and ensure competence by initiating training, coaching, counseling or discipline to respond to items identified in the employee's performance.
  • Oversee the plant preventive and predictive maintenance program to ensure effectiveness on minimizing unplanned downtime.
  • Maintain efficient, accurate and timely records and reports relating to all projects and equipment failures within the manufacturing facility.
  • Develop specifications for production equipment; assist in the selection, purchase, and installation of equipment in the plant. Maintain Plant, vendor and repair maintenance manuals as regulated by state and federal government.
  • Oversee maintenance and manufacturing budgets to include labor cost.
  • Willingness to work unusual hours, including weekends or nights in emergency situations.
  • Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately.
  • Reports to all scheduled shifts and attends meetings as required
  • Responsible for supply/Ordering of parts and equipment at the lowest cost and best service which includes all machine parts and mold parts.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of our list of outside vendors.
  • Responsible for the maintenance on all equipment in the utility area (boiler room), machine room, packing room, print department, warehouse and pre-expansion area.
  • Responsible for the complete maintenance needs in relation to the building.
  • Provides accurate records of employee absenteeism, accidents, wage increases, vacation and overtime. Responsible for data input into computer programs/systems as required for records.
  • From the gas readings, coordinate with the machines running to establish volume of gas to be purchased each month and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Responsible for the timely submission of performance reviews on all maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborates with the Continuous Improvement Manager on the supplying and maintaining of all safety equipment used in the plant
  • Collaborates direct support to the Production Department for their daily requirements, (i.e., tools equipment parts, people).
  • Oversees and is responsible for the Maintenance Department Budget.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation.
  • Performs annual performance evaluations of direct reports.
  • Conducts necessary progressive disciplinary corrective actions and resolves team member's conflicts.
  • Responsible for controlling and monitoring attendance and punctuality of the entire team.
  • Works closely with Safety & Quality team to ensure safety and quality guidelines are followed.
  • Works with all other departmental areas to maintain productivity and plant maintenance initiatives.
  • Supports all current and new product demands.
  • Partners with WCH leadership to ensure team collaboration including training methods that leads plant productivity. May participate in required audits.
  • Follows WinCup Values, follows company procedures, GMP, and other related safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensures the safety of all plant team by training, insistence of rigid compliance with all established safety rules, and the use of disciplinary action against any employees if necessary. Assures compliance with OSHA.
  • Plans, directs and supervises the operations of the Maintenance Department of a manufacturing plant.

Competencies:

  • Work an 8+ hour shift while standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, grasping and lifting throughout the entire shift.

  • Requires the manual movement of repair parts and tools that may weight up to 50 pounds.

  • Works in an environment of heat and cold weather conditions.

  • Wear PPE while working which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards.

  • Work an 8+ hour day shift. Able to work weekdays, weekends and other necessary hours as needed.

Qualifications:

Education - Associates or Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience - Five to ten years of supervision in a manufacturing environment. Maintenance experience in repairing production lines preferred.

Skills - Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word). Mechanical aptitude, willing to learn and manual dexterity. Able to obtain forklift certifications. Good problem solving analysis skills. Knowledge of machine shop and inspection equipment. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Good oral and written communication skills, works well with others.
