Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Analysis & Finite Element Analysis

Huntsville, AL

Who We Are

Aurex is a mission-focused aerospace and defense company building the next frontier of deterrence. From hypersonics and missile defense to hardened networks and orbital systems, we design, test, and deliver the platforms that turn unproven ideas into battlefield-ready capability.

Born in Huntsville and built for speed, Aurex brings together aerospace veterans, combat-tested operators, and forward-leaning technologists to solve problems that matter—fast. We move from whiteboard to warfighter with precision, clarity, and zero tolerance for fluff.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with expertise in aerospace structural design using CAD software such as SolidWorks, and thermal analysis packages like Thermal Desktop. The ideal candidate will design and analyze ablative and non-ablative thermal protection systems (TPS), aero-thermal heating, environmental thermal loading on structures, and heat dissipation for power electronics and PCBs, ensuring optimal performance in extreme aerospace environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design aerospace structural components and thermal protection systems using CAD software, primarily SolidWorks.
  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings to support manufacturing and integration.
  • Perform thermal analysis using tools like Thermal Desktop to model and simulate ablative and non-ablative TPS.
  • Analyze aero-thermal heating effects on aerospace vehicles during atmospheric entry or high-speed flight.
  • Evaluate environmental thermal loading on structures, including radiation, convection, and conduction in space and atmospheric conditions.
  • Design and optimize heat dissipation solutions for power electronics and PCBs to maintain operational temperatures.
  • Conduct simulations to predict thermal behavior and structural integrity under various loading conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including aerodynamics, materials, and electronics engineers, to integrate thermal designs.
  • Support prototyping, testing, and validation of thermal systems, iterating designs based on analysis and test results.

Qualifications

  • Only U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance will be considered.
  • Work in person at our corporate headquarters in Huntsville AL
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field with relevant experience in the industry
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or relevant field with experience in applying your knowledge to real-world systems
  • 2-5 years of industry experience in mechanical design and thermal analysis
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Hands-on experience with thermal analysis packages, such as Thermal Desktop.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and analyzing ablative and non-ablative thermal protection systems (TPS).
  • Strong knowledge of aero-thermal heating, environmental thermal loading, and heat dissipation for power electronics and PCBs.
  • Familiarity with structural-thermal coupled analysis and material properties in extreme environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with aerospace regulatory standards and certification processes is a plus.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with additional thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS Thermal, SINDA/FLUINT).
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for coupled thermal-structural simulations.
  • Familiarity with materials for TPS, such as ceramics, composites, or ablative coatings.
  • Experience in high-temperature testing or simulation of aerospace components.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics and space environment effects on thermal systems.

How You Will Be Rewarded

The salary for this role is 85, ,000 annually. We offer a comprehensive total rewards approach to compensation, providing incentives and benefits that extend far beyond the base salary. Compensation is determined by the candidate's work experience, education, training, and relevant skills.
