Description:
Position Summary: Reporting to the Supervising Attorney of Student Suspensions the Intake Coordinator reviews information and materials provided by schools and processes requests for Superintendent-level suspensions. Intake Coordinator provides technical assistance to hearing office staff, and schools through SOHO on issues such as student placement, MDR status, early reinstatement, and transfers. The Intake Coordinator maintains and updates several databases on findings of fact, early reinstatement, involuntary transfers, as well as voluntary post-suspension transfers. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Works closely with the Borough Director of Suspensions, school-based suspension staff, Superintendents’ officers, other New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) offices, parents, and external offices, as needed.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates parent and student school/community outreach activities related to pre- and post-Superintendent’s Suspensions.
- Drafts charges in accordance with the Discipline Code.
- Schedules hearings; prepares suspension letters for timely dissemination to all appropriate parties; prepares suspension files in accordance with Chancellor’s Regulations.
- Creates, maintains and updates several databases on findings of fact, early reinstatement, involuntary transfers as well as voluntary post-suspension transfers.
- Provides technical support to hearing offices, school personnel, parents, and attorneys on suspension procedures.
- Meets with parents and school personnel and answers suspension-related questions in person and remotely.
- Maintains ongoing contact with community-based organizations on matters related to the Student Suspension and Hearing Office work.
- Provides technical assistance to Hearing Office staff and schools through SOHO on issues such as student placement, Manifestation of Disability Review (MDR) status, early reinstatement, and transfers among others.
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
Plus In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above
Preferred
- Knowledge of the NYCPS Discipline Code, OORS (Online Occurrence Reporting System) and SOHO (Suspensions and Office of Hearings Online) applications, and Chancellor’s Regulation A443, as it relates to student suspensions.
- Strong data management and analysis skills.
- Successful experience working in a team environment.
- Customer service experience.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
- Thorough knowledge of NYCPS student information systems, especially ATS (Automate the Schools).
Salary: $69,884 - $76,828
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
