STATUS: Non-Exempt; hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hourly rate: $30.22 to $31.32 an hour

This is not a remote position; required to be on campus.

General Description:

The Instructional Technologist assists faculty and students in the use of technological tools and innovations as it relates to teaching, testing, scholarly activities and assessment of student learning in various settings and platforms. An understanding of technology as a pedagogical tool is essential. The position is a full-time appointment requiring 35 hours of service per week to the College.

Functions:

  1. Assist faculty with development, design and delivery of course materials and educational activities.
  2. Prepare and develop instructional technology training and materials to support faculty, students, and administration within Academic Affairs.
  3. Provide front line support for faculty and students using technologies in face-to-face, online, and blended courses.
  4. Support the mission of the College.
  5. Model and promote professional behavior and stewardship toward the College and its stakeholders.

Organizational Relationships:

  1. Report to the Senior Instructional Technologist.
  2. Work in partnership with faculty, academic deans, directors, educational administrators, the information technology staff, the systems administrator and the educational technology personnel.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist and support faculty in the development of course materials, educational activities, and training in the use of technology in the classroom.
  2. Perform one-on-one training with faculty in the use of the LMS (D2L Brightspace) and all appropriate engagement tools and LMS features.
  3. Collaborate in the planning, design, documentation and implementation of software training modules and workshops based on various instructional technologies and educational best practices.
  4. Participate in the faculty mentoring process and new faculty orientations.
  5. Participate in and support College committees and task forces as necessary to the position.
  6. Keep abreast of new opportunities surrounding instructional technology and faculty development through proactive research and collaborations with professional organizations.
  7. Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Participation in Departmental Responsibilities (as assigned by supervisor):

  1. Organize and coordinate the faculty development activities for all academic programs.
  2. Identify faculty development needs and opportunities in collaboration with the the Senior Instructional Technologist, academic deans, directors, educational administrators, and faculty.
  3. Develop and maintain a schedule of inservice and other training opportunities for faculty.
  4. Organize and coordinate on-campus or virtual inservices, external speakers, and annual teaching forum.
  5. Evaluate and solicit feedback of faculty development programs.

Methods of Accountability:

  1. Verbal and written communications with the Senior Instructional Technologist.
  2. Verbal and written feedback from faculty, staff, administrators, and other College stakeholders.
  3. Annual performance evaluation by the Senior Instructional Technologist.

  8. Requires excellent problem solving, interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.

Education, Training and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design or related area preferred.
  2. One to three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. High working knowledge of Learning Management System, preferably D2L Brightspace.
  4. Strong ability to teach/train faculty and staff in the usage of web-based tools/applications required.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office applications required.
  6. Experience working with cloud technologies preferred.
