Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Bookkeeper will play a vital role in the financial management of the tribal government, focusing on the accurate tracking and reporting of grant funds. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deal with complexity to ensure compliance with grant requirements and financial regulations.

The Bookkeeper will collaborate with various departments to manage financial records, process transactions, and support the overall financial health of the tribal government.
In this role the Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining records of financial transactions by establishing accounts, posting transactions, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements as well as developing a system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts and defining bookkeeping policies and procedures. The Bookkeeper will maintain subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions accurately as well as balance subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The Bookkeeper must maintain the general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries and preparing a trial balance as well as balance the general ledger by reconciling entries and preparing necessary adjustments as well as maintain historical records by filing documents systematically for easy access and retrieval. The Bookkeeper will prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends for management review as well as complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying regulations, enforcing adherence, filing reports, and advising management on necessary actions.

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for processing accounts that are payable and receivable, including grant-related transactions, ensuring timely and accurate payments and receipts and reconcile bank statements and grant accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data. The Bookkeeper will track grant expenditure and ensure funds are allocated appropriately according to grant guidelines as well as develop and implement standards for financial processes and reporting to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

The Bookkeeper will analyze financial information and deal with complexity in data management and reporting as well as collaborating with program managers to ensure financial reporting aligns with grant objectives and requirements as well as report research results on management regarding financial performance and grant utilization. The Bookkeeper will assist in the audit process by providing necessary documentation and information related to grant funding and expenditure as well as providing administrative support to the finance department as needed, including filing, documentation, and clerical tasks as well as contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably in a government or nonprofit environment.
Strong understanding of grant management and compliance requirements.
