The Overnight Shelter Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing essential assistance to young adults within the Manchester, NH community. This position involves working collaboratively in a team to support young adults aged 18-25 who are utilizing Waypoint's Emergency Shelter services. Our Emergency Shelter program offers round-the-clock care for youth and young adults facing homelessness or at risk of it. The Shelter staff adopt a Positive Youth Development framework, implement Harm Reduction strategies, and adhere to Trauma-Informed practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight support and assistance to clients.
  • Establish trusting relationships with young adults.
  • Deliver crisis intervention as needed.
  • Facilitate connections to daytime services.
  • Complete necessary documentation and maintain accurate client files.
  • Conduct intakes and assessments for new clients.

Qualifications

  • A strong passion for our mission and objectives.
  • At least one year of relevant experience (lived experience is highly valued).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including knowledge of sexual health, mental health, and substance use is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated to working with young adults.
  • Creative, innovative, and courageous mindset.
  • Must pass a criminal background check with no history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • A valid driver's license and auto insurance meeting agency minimum liability coverage of $50,000/$100,000 are required.
