Job Title: Senior Program Officer, Asia

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a leading organization that supports democratic activists, civil society organizations, and independent media worldwide. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Program Officer to join our Asia program team.

Job Summary:

The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for assessing political developments in Asia, refining NED's strategy, and monitoring grant implementation. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team committed to promoting democracy and freedom.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Asia program leadership to manage grants and coordinate NED's programming in the region.
  • Monitor political developments in Asia, including reading regional publications and meeting with analysts and civil society representatives.
  • Monitor grant implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of NED grantees through regular field visits and grantee reports.
  • Build relationships with like-minded organizations, including donors and regional organizations.
  • Liaise with other NED teams and participate in working groups to improve NED's overall functioning.
  • Organize meetings and events focused on democracy-related issues in Asia.
  • Produce written materials and presentations to inform funding decisions.
  • Travel to monitor grantees, identify new funding opportunities, and gain a deeper understanding of the region.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in International Affairs, Political Science, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Significant experience in democracy-related projects and programs required.
  • 2+ years of living and working in the region preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • High degree of organization and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player.
  • Experience in financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Full professional proficiency in the local language preferred.
  • Ability to travel to Asia, as needed.
