POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manufacturing Engineering Lead (MEL) is responsible for overseeing initiatives aimed at enhancing process efficiency, implementing design modifications, optimizing cycle times, managing costs, and ensuring safety standards are met.

The MEL directs the development of operational procedures, reviews technical drawings, and serves as a technical liaison among Manufacturing Engineers, Engineering teams, and the in-house Machine Shop.

The MEL formulates staffing strategies and allocates Engineering resources to align with production demands. The role involves talent development, setting performance objectives, and evaluating outcomes to guarantee operational effectiveness.

Familiarity with military and commercial material specifications (including aluminum and steel), pumps and compressors, protective coatings, heat treatment processes, non-destructive testing, ASME Y14.5M (dimensioning and tolerancing), MIL-STD-100 (engineering drawing standards), and AS9100 Quality System Requirements, ISO9001, ISO14001 is preferred.

The candidate must be capable of working independently. Experience with lean manufacturing principles is advantageous.

The MEL is expected to conduct thorough research, recommend, justify, and supervise the installation of capital equipment, as well as manage facility maintenance programs and support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) initiatives.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The MEL will oversee all Manufacturing Engineers and fabrication teams. For specific titles and personnel, please refer to the organizational chart of the company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manufacturing
Enhancing product quality through continuous improvement initiatives and training in lean methodologies.
Analyzing production metrics (first pass yield, defects, capacity) and taking appropriate actions.
Reviewing and approving production routings and work instructions.
Creating and validating tooling and fixtures.
Maintaining Bill of Materials (BOMs), including lead time management.

  • Quality Assurance
Reviewing and implementing corrective actions for machining-related defects or material damage.
Conducting audits and reporting on the effectiveness of corrective measures.
Participating in Material Review Board (MRB) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), as well as Parker Lean Systems.
Engaging in proposal discussions with other departments.
Contributing to new product introduction meetings.
Representing manufacturing engineering in customer and supplier meetings.

  • Engineering Support
Reviewing and recommending modifications to drawings that improve part quality, reduce manufacturing costs, or facilitate ease of production (machining, assembly, and testing).
Ensuring designs are manufacturable, schedules are realistic, developing risk mitigation strategies, and driving implementation.
Assisting engineering teams with the creation and release of Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) and Internal Test Procedures (ITP).
Other duties as assigned by management.
May involve interaction with customers and suppliers.
Occasional travel may be required – up to 10%.
