The Electrical Automation Engineer will take charge of the execution and deployment of significant equipment and facility projects, overseeing all stages from conception and planning to installation, commissioning, and project completion. This role will deliver engineering support to assist plant-level Maintenance, Production/Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and management teams in diagnosing and addressing technical process challenges. Providing technical support will necessitate a comprehensive understanding of plant power distribution networks and machinery control systems. A solid grasp of mechanical and electrical engineering principles will be essential for the assigned project tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage capital projects, which includes defining project scope, preparing funding requests, tracking budgets, schedules, and executing projects.
  • Oversee daily operations of contractors and plant maintenance staff during project implementation.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to existing process equipment and control systems.
  • Offer training and technical guidance to plant-level Maintenance, Production/Operations, EH&S, and management personnel to ensure successful achievement of project objectives.
  • Utilize advanced hardware and software components to design machine control systems that enhance equipment efficiency while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Travel to various facilities for project planning, equipment installation, startup, and training support.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Core Competencies:

  • Fundamentals of Project Management
  • Expertise in Rockwell Automation software and Allen-Bradley hardware.
  • Strong understanding of industrial controls and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Familiarity with Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus)
  • Comprehension of open/closed control loops (PIDs)
  • Understanding of electrical wiring standards as per the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Experience in Data Historian development
  • Knowledge of low-voltage power distribution systems
  • Familiarity with Software/Data communication protocols (OPC-UA/OPC-DA)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
  • Ability to keep updated with advancements in controls and technology

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a controls engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing setting.

Work Environment:

The primary work setting is within a manufacturing facility, with an expectation of occasional travel to support project activities. The work atmosphere is typically fast-paced and may become demanding, requiring the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
