Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States Carlisle SynTec Full time

Job Overview
The Manufacturing Process Specialist plays a crucial role in the development, assessment, and implementation of innovative or modified manufacturing technologies, products, equipment, and systems for all operations. This position operates under the supervision of the Plant Manager, ensuring efficient and effective manufacturing processes.

This role provides essential leadership in troubleshooting and collaborates with production teams to enhance quality and efficiency while striving to minimize operational expenses.

The Manufacturing Process Specialist is tasked with executing process enhancements and controls aimed at decreasing defects, waste, rework, and production downtime.

Collaborative efforts are coordinated with all relevant departments, adhering to established manufacturing standards while employing quality improvement methodologies and experimental designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Enhancement: Analyze process data (defects, waste, rework, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, etc.) to pinpoint process deficiencies and develop methods, materials, training, and equipment adjustments to achieve improvements. Utilize various quality techniques and barcode information systems. Lead and participate in task groups, engaging with production staff as a vital part of the improvement initiative. Support operational excellence initiatives through training and active participation.
  • Technical Support: Provide assistance to production teams in resolving issues related to materials, methods, and equipment. Cultivate expertise across all plant operations (compounding, extrusion, web handling, adhesive coating). Leverage extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions. Mentor production staff to foster ownership of quality.
  • Process Control: Ensure oversight and management of production processes and variability through the creation, issuance, and revision of written process specifications. Implement and train relevant personnel in statistical process control techniques to identify factors affecting process stability, including waste, defects, rework, throughput rates, and dimensional characteristics.
  • Project Leadership: Take charge of various projects within the plant, including the introduction of new technologies and cost-saving initiatives. Support and engage in the evaluation of research and development trials for new products and processes, as well as the justification for new equipment or capital investments to enhance operations.
  • Information Systems Management: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of dimensional control systems, tracking systems for waste/defects/rework, and mixing control systems. Verify and troubleshoot information systems. Responsible for generating reports on projects and processes.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science with coursework in mathematics (algebra and geometry), chemistry, and physics. Knowledge in statistical process control and plastics technology is advantageous.
Experience:
1-4 years of experience in plastic processing within a technical support capacity is preferred but not mandatory.
Work Environment:
Approximately 70% of the time will be spent in the plant working on projects, observing processes, and troubleshooting, while 30% will be dedicated to office tasks such as report writing, data analysis, and computer work. The plant environment can be warm in summer, with exposure to solvent fumes and elevated noise levels (PPE provided). The role is fast-paced and may be demanding.
Work Schedule:
Typically Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed to support production. Standard hours are from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with potential for early or late hours to address trials, resolve process issues, or initiate new equipment.
