Job Title: Recreation Therapist, CF

Job Summary:

The Recreation Therapist, CF will lead, instruct, and encourage patients in a program of individual and group activities of a physical, social, and cultural nature. The successful candidate will supervise entertainments and movies, assist in planning programs for special occasions, and work with the therapeutic team to plan treatment goals for specific patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and instruct patients in individual and group activities of a physical, social, and cultural nature.
  • Supervise entertainments and movies, and assist in planning programs for special occasions.
  • Work with the therapeutic team to plan treatment goals for specific patients.
  • Coordinate the activities program of a group of patients, including simple crafts, games, social and musical activities, and instruct unit personnel in basic activity skills.
  • Observe patients' reactions and progress, and record clinical notes to be included in medical files and prepare reports.
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of persons committed to the California Department of Corrections, prevent escapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others or to property, and maintain security of working areas and work materials.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with major work in recreation or recreation therapy, including supervised field work.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
