About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Systems Engineering Group, you will play a critical role in developing and assessing requirements, designing and testing systems, and providing technical expertise to support the development of strategic deterrence capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide systems engineering expertise to support the development of strategic deterrence systems, including requirements analysis, concept development, risk assessments, and test and evaluation.
  • Utilize tools and techniques to analyze weapon system capabilities and develop future weapon system requirements.
  • Participate in design and requirements reviews, and provide domain expertise to support research, studies, and analysis on current and future weapons system capabilities and performance.
  • Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts, solutions, and analysis results.
  • Produce reports that bring together concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience performing systems engineering, including early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to participate in multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government sponsors.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices and supporting contractor sites.
  • Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in systems engineering.
  • Experience in systems engineering for missile systems.
  • Understanding of DoD acquisition processes, Navy Strategic Systems programs, and/or Air Force ICBM programs.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering software, especially model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools like Magic Draw and DOORS.
  • Knowledge of the Navy Trident II Strategic Weapon System and/or Air Force ICBM System.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.
